Just got done stripping my cabinets!! One thing i learned with chemical stripper was to cover it with plastic and let it sit for a few hours. It took off 3 layers easily. Great job with the heat gun!!

One thing is for certain, no one could ever call you lazy! You are one hard-working woman and you don’t give up. That was so much work and I’m praying for the success of the Airbnb and that everything works to your advantage. You certainly deserve it. Take care, stay safe.

Anyone who thinks that people who post on YouTube don't have real jobs need to watch your videos. You have a smart approach to life.

When dealing with stripping, I always pre scuff everything with 60grit, or 80 grit, before applying the stripper. Doing so, allows the stripper to bite in deeper through multiple layers paint.

Me and my husband are watching this and because we'd have this arthritis issue, our suggestion would be to get a couple of sawhorses upon which you could put the cupboard doors. It's probably not that big a deal for you though. Really enjoy you. Thank you for being such a hardworking industrious young lady. You're kind of inspiring, Neiman too. . .

Actually I was thinking the same thing as everyone else about it having lead paint. What a job you had. I know this kitchen will turn out beautiful. Can’t wait to see the out come. Happy you took precaution with your ventilator and gloves and I hope that was enough to keep you safe. Love you two stay safe. Hugs

LOVE the idea of keeping the doors off the centre cabinets. Recently, stayed in a hotel that had a large kitchenette with cabinets for their dishes that didn't have doors. It made it 100% easier to locate things.

I am stripping cabinets that were chalk painted and am using Stripwell FQS. I wrap the cabinet and drawer fronts in plastic wrap and let it sit overnight. Using the Bahco carbide blade, it peels right off. I will try the heat gun for the cabinet frames. Looking forward to going on this journey with you. You are laying a good foundation for a strong financial future.

What a wonderfully informative vid. Our house was built in '59. We've been here nearly 40 years and I know how many coats/layers of paint I have applied. Time to take it off. Discussion so far has focused on sanding this well-made-of-solid-wood structure. Now I will approach the project with a heat gun and metal scraper. Thank you for this offering of information. I appreciate your "vintage" cabinetry and your hard work.

A beautiful old fashioned kitchen. ( Just a quick tip from an old refinisher. An old hollow core door and two collapsable saw horses make a great portable work table and take up only a little storage space. Saves wear and tear on the body. )Good luck.

I would leave the middle top doors off. It doesn't have a divider so it would look nice with some pretty bowls or maybe a display of wine glasses.

Wish I had thought of a heat gun. I bought this machine that not only takes off paint, but it also takes off chunks of wood~ What a mess!! So glad you are keeping the tiles. They look so cute! Good luck!!

I am amazed how well that heat gun worked! It looked like it worked as well as that chemical stripper. One thought….have you thought about reversing the cabinet drawers since the inside drawers have less layers than the outside? The inside would be easy to sand down and you could use those as the front facing drawers. Great video and learning exercise!

Labor of love for sure. Top cabinets without doors would enhance the charm and ensure easy access for those unfamiliar with contents. Do yourself a big, big favor. Enlist in a portable folding table/work bench to do these jobs. Your back and knees will graciously thank you later 🙂. You rock, young lady!

The heat gun us definitely the best way to go. I have never had a lot of success with the chemical stripper. Can't believe how many layers of paint there was on these cabinets. You've made great progress today with the stripping. Can't wait to see the finished kitchen cabinets. Thanks, Lauren, for helping me decide how I'm going to strip a chest of drawers I'll be redoing in the future.

Patience, Perseverance, Persistency! 👍 👏. Well Done Lauren.
Everything looks like solid wood which is great.
I once used a heat gun (also used the gel stripper first) to get layers of paint off our front door. Despite being very careful, I burnt a hole in the carpet! Was able to cover it with a Welcome mat!
I also transformed our old kitchen by turning the doors Insideout because they were a similar Shaker style inside.

Fun to think about the history of the space and visualize previous owners painting the cabinets.

It looks beautiful! Have you considered leaving the upper doors off? I’ve previously had 6 airbnbs and found that people like to be able to find where things are easily. It also enables a lovely display. I done that in a few Renos as well. It keeps the character while making it look updated
