ehm, right along the "Battle of Normandy", there was a tiny little thing in the east called Operation Bagration, which resulted in around a million casualties.

What the hell? 1944 would be Operation Bagration?

You cant count the “battle of France” as a battle that’s a whole campaign

So, one of the issues with this is that it’s a mix of battles and campaigns. Those are 2 very different things to draw data from. . Normandy is a campaign that occurred in 1944 but the fights on the beaches and with the airborne drops were battles within it. Casualties on DDay were nothing compared to the inland campaign that followed. DDay saw about 10, 000 allied casualties, while Germans vary greatly between 4, 000 and 9, 000 depending on source and classification. The rest of the campaign saw around 415, 000 casualties. This isn’t the deadliest battle or campaign of ‘44 though, by a long shot.

If you really want to see horrendous losses in 1944, take a look at Operation Bagration in the summer of ‘44. Whiped out Army Group Center. An entire Army Group just ceased to exist. Well over a million battlefield casualties in 2 months.

1944 saw Germany suffer their worst defeat in their entire military history. And no, it wasn’t Normandy, it was bagration. Normandy wasn’t even close.

If it weren't for the military mistakes, Germany would have been victorious.
