The band Tool has song called Lateralus. The time signatures and syllable count of the lyrics follows the Fibonacci sequence. Fascinating and very creative.

Numberphile, like mathematics, is nationless (and made by an Australian living in England but often filming around the world).

And just FYI, had a bigger US audience than UK last time I looked.

I love tartan and bagpipes (even have my own set of small pipes and took lessons). Great video. BTW, back in the 90's when I brought my bagpipe back from Scotland to the US in my luggage, I got severe looks from the X-ray tech at airport security and had to open my carry-on; can't imagine how I'd get one home now.

I've just realized what my life has been missing: Brady in a Fibonacci tartan kilt.

When I was writing my (music) dissertation I discovered that the Amen Break (one of the most popular breaks/ beats used in Drum n Bass, Hip Hop etc.) follows the Fibonacci/ Golden Ratio! and it would also fit over the song used in this video! :)

Like I'm just the camera guy who sneaks into shot when the boss isn't looking! :)

PS: Read the blog (link above) and you'll see why this video ended up being just me and not the tartan experts!

Your YouTube channels, among others like vsauce, give a new hope to the world. Knowing that there are people like you lot out there makes me feel much better

I love the innocence of a mathematician. His instinct was not to monetize it and sell it on the site, but rather to redirect you to someone else's site and encourages you to try them. Very beautiful.

Brady, that's so cool! My eye was twitching a little at first, though: the tartan was asymmetrical, but then you explained that it was more common amongst Italian designs, honoring Fibonacci. Completely awesome design!

Fucking hell, I'm Scottish and even I think that Fibonacci music is the sound that will announce the awakening of the Old Ones and the beginning of the End Times.

Thank you again for this! I'm not a numberphile exactly, but as a college earth science instructor, well, it's close! But I'm also of Scots heritage and would LOVE a bit of this tartan! I browsed the House of Tartan site and searched on Fibonacci, but no luck...can you help?

indeed - Prof Phil Moriarty has referred to it in previous videos - he loves it!

Beautiful bagpipes, I just wish I could hear where the fibonacci sequence fits into it.

Personally, I don't think you can take enough credit for putting out accessible, easy-to-watch, easy-to-understand videos so every goddamn jackoff on the internet can get this information FOR FREE! You're awesome, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

If you're interested in getting some of the tartan (when I figure out how to cut it up???) you can drop me an email with "tartan" in the subject - the details are in the video description... Use the numberphile gmail address!

Turn this into installation art in a gallery: the tartan displayed with the music. It literally makes my heart sing with joy. What?
