Gettin’ wingy wit it. Let’s take a look at winging scapula. What does it mean if your blades are winging up off of your back? You have some strengthening work to do! This is a little drill you can do with a friend to figure out how to use the muscles to get the blades into a position where they are no longer winging! ⁣

These blades belong to yours truly. That’s right. I’m the proud owner of some super wingers. I am hypermobile (Ehlers-Danlos), so I have more mobility in my blades than most people and can intentionally do this. You will not see many people wing to the extent that I am in this video. I have pretty good control of my blades but I need to consistently work on strengthening the surrounding muscles. I also have shoulders that sublux very easily and lots of other joints that are extra flexy. So… I work consistently on strength and stability. ⁣

I hear some people try to argue that posture and winging blades do not matter. For *some* people that may be true. The majority, however, would greatly benefit from paying attention, increasing body awareness, and strengthening. For those with musculoskeletal issues like myself, whether because of hypermobility, past injuries, or any other reason, it can be the difference between a painful or pain-free life. ⁣

You can decide how to handle the cards you are dealt in life. If you have pain from an accident, injury, or a diagnosis of a “non-treatable” connective tissue disorder like I do, you still have control. You can take that excuse and hide behind it and get weaker and more limited or you can take it as motivation to do everything in your power to be stronger, to have less pain, and to make the most out of your life and your body. There is ALWAYS someone out there fighting a tougher battle than you are… and crushing it. So get to work. You deserve to spend time daily on yourself. You cannot be a good employee, parent, spouse, etc, if you are in constant pain or stress because of your body. ⁣

I have a mild s-shaped scoliosis of the thoracic spine does that create winging? I have a lateral winged scapula, do you have any videos on how to remedy that or isn't it possible with the scoliosis?

is there an amount of scapula winging thats normal? I used to have winging scapula during all pushing exercises and ive done the scoop exercise from another video to fix it so when i do push ups i have no scapular winging, but i can still voluntarily wing them is that normal?
