My personal rule is: understand all the variants of English and speak the way it's most natural to you, even with your native foreign accent, provided your English is correct, understandable and possibly beautiful.

Don't learn a language because it's practical. Learn a language that you truly love. If you learn a language just for the sake of practical use while something else attracts you more, you'll regret it later. If you feel more comfortable in certain accent or language, it's more fun to learn and you'll be understood much better just because you're more confident.

Thanks so much Gabby. Iโ€™m from IRAQ. We were taught the British English when we were at school & university. But once I got graduated, Iโ€™ve found that Iโ€™m speaking the AMERICAN accent, thatโ€™s because we watch a lot of American movies & TV show. I watch your video because youโ€˜re brilliant & have such a lovely personality. You added something for me, itโ€™s your lovely facial expression when pronouncing each sentence ๐Ÿ’“

In my country you learn British English in primary school and high school. I never learned American English and never had a problem with it and don't recognize the struggles she is talking about.

Hello Gabby! Nice to see you! I was learning British English at school, in the university, and during my postgraduate education. I have learned nothing. It so happened:( Now, many years later, I try to learn English again, but American. I hope to master it one day:) Thanks a lot for your lessons! I have found out a lot not only about the English language but also about American culture, thanks to you. My congratulation to a winner, Valeria Gomes!

Thanks for this video! I am an American English speaker, but I didn't realize this accent was so universal. I didn't know until I spoke with some of my ESL students, when they said that learning this language was so important for their careers. They especially wanted to learn American English for the computer science field.

Hi Gaby, i'm a french learner from French polynesia (Tahiti). Given the fact that we are closer to the USA and also that we receive a bunch of people from your country each year (before the pandemic), it is way better and practical for me (and for us) to learn americain english without mentionning that i prefer your accent to the british one. Take care, stay home and be safe

I'm French, studying British English for years at school/ university but my accent is closer to the American English, because of Netflix, YouTube and my friends from abroad who speak mostly American English. I started learning British Phonetics this semester and it's a complete nightmare for me, cause I literally have to change my habitsโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ซ
