Early stages present unique challenges, especially when the person doesn't realize their problems and is still somewhat independent. I cared for my mom for years with great patience, but now that my husband is in early stages it is very hard.

I put my keys in the fridge / freezer at work when I don’t want to forget taking them home.

The first obvious sign was that my Mom was inable to balance her checkbook. There were other signs in retrospect, but I wasn't able to see it. My Mom was unable to respect boundaries my wife wanted in place, particularly to not work on our landscaping without my wife's permission. Later signs were being unable to drive to the emissions testing location. I'm sure there are some other signs i missed.
