It's a shame this nice machine has such a small software library.

Love the number of colours on screen and that Pacmania game looks very good.
It is very interesting to see the different capabilities of this machines updated graphics chip.

I had a C128, though didn't have any games that really took advantage of its extra power. I remember things loading a lot quicker on the 1570 drive I had in C128 mode and games booting automatically, which was nice.

Ultima V was also great on the C128 :)

This video came the very day that I bought a C128 from craigslist. One of the shift keys seems to be broken and it needs a little retrobright treatment, but other than that it seems to be in working order. Looking forward to trying it out.

The C64 gunship game by microprose actually ran faster on a C128 and made for a better experience. I had given my C128 to a freind then a few years later bought a C64c and boy ways Gunship slow on that...

1:39 I wonder if it computes the orthographic projection in real time for a bitmap.

8:25 The VDC has some simple "blitter" copy/fill capabilities that can make it perform well for some tasks, like scrolling a bitmap.

Interesting stuff, I have not seen much real 128 software so far. A friend of mine that owned a 128D back then had onle 1 single real 128 game. ;-)

Great video. One correction: I think there isn't a "better" version of the VDC chip "8563". All C128 can be upgraded to 64 KB VDC RAM. Only C128D-CR (cost reduced) got 64 KB VDC RAM originally. It can show 8 colors in 2 intensities.

Do you have an idea if addressing extra colours using the VDC isn't very fast, (at least judging by the tiny windows of the plasma and zoom effects in the demo)? Or is it just that that part of the system was never as exploited as the C64 hardware was? Now if only the C64 had that palette... that would be something.

Brilliant, thank you.
What are you using to capture? It's very clean capture. Does the C128 (you can decide how I pronounced that 😏) output RGB or is it composite/svideo like the C64.

Now, Turtles Arcade, I don't know if it was the disc version or when playing on a C128, you could have 2 player game..

Can the c128 still load from cassette tape?
