Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda! Directed by Academy Award® winner Domee Shi (Pixar short “Bao”) and produced by Lindsey Collins, Turning Red releases on March 11, 2022.

I remember, when I was younger, watching Monsters Inc. for the first time. I loved Sully and was terrified of Randal. As I grew older, watching Inside Out and Up I realized these movies aren't just for children, they're for everyone. I love Pixar cause they explore deeper themes such as Sadness being necessary, simply living rather than focusing on the future, and realizing change might be scary, but it brings with it amazing opportunities. The emotional and moral lessons you learn deepen as you revisit each movie.

Pixar has won 23 Academy Awards and 2 Emmy Awards. The film also deals with aspects of puberty, though the film does not directly talk of biological changes. For example, Mei's mother first mistakes Mei's reaction to her transformation as if she was having her first menstruation. Shi said they were "unapologetic" about the discussion of these topics in the film; the title Turning Red itself an allegory for this time in a young woman's life. Shi and her staff had feared that studio executives would have wanted these scenes removed but they had accepted them into the film.

Ever since the first _Toy Story_ film in 1995, I have been a huge fan of Pixar's films for as long as I can remember for its life lessons, humor, sadness, the connections with these characters that you resonate with them and the incredible storytelling and writing that the crew and animators put their heart and soul in each film, that's dedication.

I'm looking forward to seeing Turning Red, Lightyear and future Pixar movies coming out in the next couple of years.

Pixar and Disney, you just cant compete with them. They were my childhood and still are today. Even watching the turning red trailers i can already tell its going to be another banger.

Even though modern Pixar films haven't really appealed to me, Pixar still has my respect as the only American animation studio that tries to be more than "goofy kiddish humor", conveying life lessons without dumbing it down the same way Hey Arnold and As Told by Ginger did in Nickelodeon. Hope to be a fan again someday.
