‘Started hitting the moves laid out in these courses the very next class...extremely uplifting to have such a quick improvement in my game’ - Houston, TX

‘I’m the only white belt in the academy doing these moves…I’m suddenly competing at a blue belt and above level…thanks Coach Tom’ - LA, California

‘Some of the best strategies you are going to see for control and submission’ - London, UK

‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia

‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ – Dallas, TX

‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California

‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida

‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ – New York, New York

Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia

‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver

‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX

‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York

‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ – Dallas, TX

‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! – LA, California

Very true, me being 43 is past the time where I know I can't explode like I did when I was in my 20's, so instead I focus on techniques and drilling bad positions instead of trying to over power a young stud, I'd never say men our age are weak but we like the easier, smarter way, testosterone won't improve your jiu jitsu..your humbleness will lead your success

This is really encouraging. I'm almost 41 and just recently started bjj. I'm still pretty anxious each time I go through the doors, but I hope it will lessen over time. I'm just going to learn something new, get stronger, and meet new people.

Very true. I'm 48yo. I already have a black belt and nearly 30 years experience in Shotokan. I have nothing to prove. I have taken up BJJ to improve me, not (im)PROVE me. I have no desire for competitions. I have no desire to chase belt ranks. I desire the knowledge and linking it, blending it, complementing it with my baseline in karate. I'd like to keep sparring and rolling for another 25 years!!!

I learned that a long time ago. Regards from Brazil (67 yo, 10 y bb)

I'm 41, and this video helps explain something that wasn't clicking for me in so many of the YouTube videos I watch on jiu-jitsu. Because a lot of the instructors are in their 20s and 30s and talking about how to deal with frustration at losing or keep your ego in check, etc. None of that felt applicable and I wondered where they got that from. Didn't really occur to me that it's a youth thing.

I couldn't care less if I never tap anyone in a roll. I'm just there to try.

I am 39 and I am learning just. To have that peace of mind that I know how to defend myself if I ever needed. Not to try to be the toughest in class.

Coach Tom, this is so true. The one thing I think older guys poses which grows with time is humility. Once you possess that, the ability to grow is so much easier. Great channel.

Really wanted to comment on this - had this conversation with someone yesterday. Hope you don't mind. I'm a krav maga instructor and I see the same thing (I'm well over 40). Younger guys are way less patient; they don't want to work on foundational basics like footwork and striking ("hey, we did this before"). Meanwhile, I'm watching videos of Bruce Lee just working on footwork. Like you said in the video, I think older guys have the maturity and patience to work on technique and in some regard, to trust in the learning process. One personal observation, I've also found in life that the fastest way to do something (such as progress in skill) is to do it the "slow way". Great video. Thanks.

You’re videos are the best on YouTube. You skip the bullshit and get right to the point of how to get better without fluff. I wish your academy was in the US.

I am 57 yrs old and started 3 mos ago. So far so good, great gym! everyone is terrific. But i do have trouble shaking the feeling of feeling too old to be in the gym even though I am in good shape and has not been a prob.

Love your philosophy and your approach. As a 61 year old I try to train hard but have to be a bit careful too. So true. I am happy to help everyone improve to beat me.

A possible theory is also that grip strength continues to develop in our 40s, at age 41 I know my forearm looks more muscular and my grip is stronger then when I was in my 20s

Randy couture, DC, Werdum, hendo and mark Hunt can all agree with this vid!!! Tough as nails and did great in their late 30’s early 40’s

Thank you for sharing this secret! What an inspiring perspective...Im in my mid forties and have just started, if I didnt stumble on this video of yours, I might find it harder progressing simply because of a wrong mindset.

I certain hope this applies to me! I'm 45 and just started bjj one month ago. Sometimes I think I train too hard for my age, but I don't know how to dial it back

At 40, a brown belt soon on to the black (fingers crossed) I find toughness varies at all ages and sizes. From my experience the smaller folks who survive past 4-5 years are the toughest (I'm a heavy weight) and bigger guys who never work on coordination rarely make it past purple level rolling. Skill = technique + execution in my books, and cunning gets you the opportunity to take ground, focus gives the finish. Oss.
