The progress is slooow but steady. Next target is to end the issue with the marbles missing the funnels, until i have done that i dont think we can achieve a perfect score. I also noticed that the score doesnt get punished enough for failed marbles, when rounding the score to two decimal points you couldnt see a difference. So i should probably alter the score calculation function in the spreadsheet for that. Thank you everyone for following the build!

These are the larger remaining steps until full completion:

- hihat activation
- Cymbal Activation
- plywood module for vibraphone (same design as for drums)
- vibraphone marble droppers (same design as for drums)
- plywood module for bass (same design as for drums)
- bass marble droppers (same design as for drums but smaller, trickier)

+ a lot of smaller extras, but it seems within reach i think!

Martin, you should get yourself a thermal camera to keep an eye on the machine during these long tests to see if any frictions are creeping in anywhere!

This man right here is my hero. He has the determination, the skills, the friendliness. He deserves everything he has right now. He works so hard, and never gives up, and laughs when he makes mistakes. He does all of this purely for his and our enjoyment. He’s been working on this machine for years, and isn’t planning on giving up ever. We love you Wintergatan. Keep doing what you love, and I’ll be sure to download that sheet music.

If he plays the original marble machine song on the new machine, he can republish it as the remastered version.

The *PAIN* of seeing a CNC eating through the screws actually made me gasp

"Satisfying in a way only a spreadsheet can be". You're officially an engineer now, welcome to the club

The way these tests blend so smoothly into jams, which so smoothly blend into background music....flawless. these videos are masterpieces in themselves

I haven't caught up with Wintergatan in a while, so to come back and see such massive progress is such a great sight and it's astonishing. I hope this doesn't sound too cheesy or sappy, but I think Martin and his Marble Machine X is so inspiring. Watching his videos and seeing him come closer to completing the machine makes me feel a little less like a crazy person for having ambitious ideas, so thank you Martin for sharing your journey with us!

It would be interesting to see the MMX through a heat cam after a test

I'm honestly really glad to stumble across your videos. The Marble Machine sounds very good even with the clicks and clanks. Makes it a lot more authentic some how, but that's just me.

On the day of 1 million marbles he should do a live stream the entire time.

There is a certain irony that I procrastinate by watching a guy work really hard on something, himself diligently working to avoid procrastination.

This is getting so close to the real life “animusic” dvd that partially inspired this project!!
Kudos martin!!

I have no idea how I ended up here but I think what I saw was a mad scientist, designer, engineer, constructor, musician doing something rather awesome. Most not wasted time I have had on YT for ages. Thanks for being amazing.

This feels like one of the best episodes in a while. I actually laughed so hard my sides hurt when the CNC went straight for those screws. I loved seeing the engineering put into fixing previous problems and adding the new tracks in. I like the new spreadsheet and in this episode it really feels like the MMX is progressing nicely and has a clear path forward. Then you put in some footage of the early shop and that music box clip to tie it into early episodes. Awesome! This one is super exciting.

Martin,
one way you could improve the funnels would be to bracket them to the frame at the base of the funnel, instead of relying on the PMMA to support them. that way the funnel as a whole doesn't move during playing, while the spring back can still move. additionally, less than 10 marbles out of 50000 lost to missing the funnel is really good. keep in mind that is a non destructive failure that doesn't directly effect the song. The last two or three tests have had a 0% critical failure rate, meaning nothing was damaged that would prevent you putting a marble or two back in the machine and continuing to play a concert.
Also first time commenting, but i've been watching since the beginning.

Man...this is SO beautiful...this comment will be lost in the mix, but so much appreciation for the craftsmanship of the analog tech here. How incredibly beautiful this work is.
