2024 Tacoma Limited Towing Test

We finally had the chance to test the new Toyota Tacoma with the 2.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder. In this video we climbed 1,700 feet in a few miles. Compared to the previous generations, the 4th gen is actually able to comfortably tow something larger than a single axle trailer.

Quite happy with how my 2021 V6 Taco tows (doesn't even notice a fully loaded and gassed 17ft aluminum boat on single axle trailer) can't imagine being convinced to switch to a turbo 4Cyl for towing purposes. I suppose if I had a bigger boat, I'd be looking to step up on tow vehicle but at that point I wouldn't be looking at Tacomas anymore.
I suppose it's more appealing if you are already in a 4cyl Tacoma looking to step up, but if you have a 3rd gen V6, I think it's a no brainer to stay with it

Good vid, thoroughly enjoyed the tour and tow demonstration..few questions…does that Tacoma have break assist with the camper…does it have the 360 top view camera display..or do you need a higher package like the Pro or TrailHunter to get those things?

Doesn't sound like it was struggling! Nice.

At last a new EA review! It would be interesting in those towing tests if you stop and try to move on a steep section. The only potential problem with the small turbos compared to na V6/V8 can become apparent at low rpm. Great review as always, besides off-road test have you made a 0-60 as well?

Nice video. Can it use the active lane centering on the highway while towing? Not just the warning tugs. Maybe a lighter load like 2500lbs?

I tow a 3500 pound v-nose. It tows great. The engine/transmission combo is amazing. It's at 3800-3900 rpm on every hill I've been on in Western Montana. The truck feels it for sure, but it's not screaming or struggling at all. The pickup drives extremely well, but operating many other things is miserable. Lots of electrical gremlins, too. Dealership won't install a brake controller. The paint chipping off is "normal". The warranty is pretty much non-existent. I have grown to hate Toyota. I pray the truck lasts mechanically because fixing it will come probably come out of my pocket- not the warranty.

Looks like you are in Utah. Have you taken it up some of the canyons? (Big/Little Cottonwood)

Good video. Something for people to consider who are not a fan of coil springs in the rear. Add air bags. It's very simple with coil springs compared to putting airbags on my tundra with leaf springs. My buddy put them on his ram eliminates squat same as my tundra.

Surprised you didn't show the transmission temp. TFL showed theirs and it got really hot towing a steep dirt road. Its in the menu

Just a matter of time before this tiny 4 banger goes out. Doesn’t belong in this size of truck

Someone said the 4wd Tacomas don’t have the dumb start/stop, but the Limited does? I’d have to find a defeat device. Man I wish Toyota would offer a 1794 Tacoma with brown saddle leather seats & black wheels & trim. But with the Limited’s Landcruiser fulltime 4wd.

Will this truck do good towing a 4650 pound toyhauler?

The real question is how long will the engine last?

Maybe someone can answer me a tech question. The lImited comes AWD by standard configuration. Does it also have a ADD like on other models that went out on TFL's channel?

Interesting video. Tow capacity is fine; payload is disappointing. I am seeing Colorado/Canyons and Rangers with payloads from 1475 to 1625 lbs and most Ridgelines have payloads between 1480 and 1580. 1200 lbs or less in Tacomas will not work for me. Most trucks will run out of payload due to tongue weight, cargo, passengers, pets, etc. before running out of tow capacity.
