I’m gonna be honest, The first book of the Twilight saga is like always the book I go back to re read when I’m in a slump. It never fails to entertain me and simultaneously bring back nostalgia. It gets me back into reading because I find that Stephanie does a good job of setting up this atmosphere in forks Washington that makes you just get lost in it, at least for me. But it also helps that I am a sucker for romance, although at times the book can be a little too cheesy for my liking, it still provides a safe space for me to swoon over Edward just as Bella does. And to keep me coming back for more. so honestly love this book series ! Regardless of its flaws

I didn’t think it was such a bad book series in the end and now that you mentioned things about feminism and being a strong woman and being a sexually comfortable woman in her own skin I never saw it that way. Now it’s making me reread the whole series again for a third time. First time I couldn’t get passed the first book not even the first 25 pages I was in high school. Second time I read the whole thing and now I may read them again.

I play these movies while im cleaning. It has such a cozy vibe. l recently reread the books too. And in Twilight I always wondered where Edward was during Gym as it was compulsory. If i were a girl in Forks, checking Edward out Id be wondering "where he at.."

In 2009 I read the first two books and just wasn’t interested in reading the rest, but now that I have so much free time I’m trying to reread them again. Although I don’t think they’re these amazing books, they’re not the worst books ever written. Although they’re not my thing, i can definitely understand why people like them.

Thank you so much for actually speaking honestly about a series that has seen way too much hate. It makes a lot of sense why this book has been so formative to so many young girls. At twelve years old Bella's story really changed how I looked at myself. This series is a love story that happens to have vampires in it, not a vampire story I think. Twilight is also so important in the YA landscape: it was one fo the first female led and written stories to see such crazy success. Also, thank you for sticking up for Bella. She's not the meek "damsel i distress" she's painted as.

This is so true. Seems like a fair score. Thank you for making this vid! I think yes, there are people out there that genuinely think Twilight is trash, but like you said, they do seem to be the same people that don’t totally remember it, or only know the narrative that second-hand media sources spotlight it as, which is actually pretty off. Or, they are just people that never read the books to begin with, only saw the movies, or only heard about it from others, like you said!

I think this other so-called “hate” on Twilight is actually coming from people who genuinely like the series, but are just trying to find the humor in the books as an icebreaker, especially because they know they’ve received so much bash through those second-hand media sources.

I do have to admit though, even as a tween reading the series, I was a little creeped out by Edward. Although, I was already pretty influenced by media the hate media was giving Twilight even before I started reading the books, so I didn’t give it a fair chance. I was a Harry Potter snob haha! I re-read them all as an adult, and I actually like them WAY more now than I did when I was young.

Thanks for changing my perspective on the book. I read it when I was 18/19 and have so far read it at least twice, probably thrice. I loved it back then but now I am 30 and know what makes a good book. I got a free copy the other day and have been reading a few pages but will probably read the whole thing again next

As a bookworm who reads sophisticated classics, I proudly say I love and enjoy the Twilight series. Never listen to the haters! There are many themes and plot points in Twilight that entirely contradicts all the absurd criticism it receives, some of it's themes are definitely forgotten in the hate mayhem. Triumph over temptation is never discussed for one thing.
P. S.S. I would say Bella marrying young is a character choice for her and her situation rather than marriage advice. Characters often are not perfect cutouts, they adapt to the conflict and circumstances of the plot. So for Twilight it works, and I often think it's all part of the hate when her wedding is criticized so vehemently.
*😁 I also beleive some men never actually liked the comparison, of so many girls swooning over these guys...even if it was all fictional! Lol!

I've actually read the gender-bent reversal of Twilight-Love and Death-and I found it extremely enjoyable and a lot of the character's actions much more understandable.

I have read the twilight series since I was 11. I am now twenty and reread the series every few years. It’s certainly not perfect (a great comfort book in my opinion). But I had never heard nor thought of the points you had made and just wow SO ACCURATE. Our society certainly undervalues entertainment targeted at young women. Excited to see what people will think in 2020 (under a new wave of feminism etc) what they think of this book ! It certainly pioneered a genre! Looking forward to you reading the series !

I'm reading these books for the first time. I enjoyed watching the movies with my mom and older sister. And yesterday when I went thrifting with my mom I found all 4 books. $2 each. So I decided to take a chance. And I'm enjoying the first book with no shame.

Hey there. I stumbled on to this video when I was watching a couple of your other reviews.
So I'm a guy who actually read all of the Twilight books. And I think you've missed the entire point of why people hate on this book. There's no issue in portraying a woman's sexual awakening using a fantasy medium. But the difference in the other books you mentioned (Harry Potter, Hunger Games, HoO etc) is that they each have a well written story separate from the relationship (Twilight focuses almost entirely on the love story where it seems the villain is tacked on in the final few pages).
Now even this wouldn't necessarily be an issue if the relationships seemed relatable. Whether it's the friendship between Harry, Ron and Hermione; the romance between Katniss and Peeta or any of the couples in HoO you could read an entire book about these people regardless of the plot. But if you're entire focus in the books is on a relationship that only women seem to enjoy (because it's their fantasy) then you can't really blame your guy friends if they aren't interested (given the multitude of other problems with the books that I've listed below).

There are a few fundamental issues that I have with the books apart from the relationship. The lack of development of any of the characters, one-dimensional villains and little to no consequences for any of the actions taken by Bella just to name a few.

Not in anyway saying you or anyone should hate on it too. If you enjoyed it that's great.

I tried to read the books but got annoyed cause it seemed like every other paragraph, the author was going on and on about either Edward’s eyes or pale skin!
