As a glass blower who started learning during lockdowns we used melted candy and metal straws to do some practice and it is super hard, big respect for you guys

I love watching sugar work. and the reason you can pull candy like this, and it keeps its structure, is that the molecules are extremely long, and the bonds are very strong. sugar is one of the more fun bits of chemistry!

For those wondering how tiny words show up : The candy initially is assembled with larger strips. You can see the guy check the naming. The cross section is larger, so words are bigger when they first roll. Once they start pulling it becomes thinner, cross section is smaller and the naming too.

Way late to this, but it warms my heart to hear a candy maker talking about glass cane. I've used the analogy of image candy countless times when describing Millie canes, and I'm glad to see it goes both ways.

I have watched some videos on this being made before and I truly believe I could do the hook part correctly first try. I’ve seen someone fail and I have studied the speed at which you need to move in order to be effective and visualized myself doing it with the little trick to loop it back over the top as you throw it. The reason i say this is because I’d love to see if I’m actually right about being able to do it first try or if I would mess up like so many others I’ve seen try for the first time. Haha
