I am 48 yrs IT professional worked with many corporate MNCs. Currently also I am in one of Swedish MNC at Sr. Mgmt capacity. Let me share the facts which some young youtubers may not have experienced yet. I have extensively worked in IT and have taken numerous interviews while hiring college and experienced professionals.

The main criteria when we intake employees are: (weightage to each and 10 is max.) -
1. How much skilled s/he is in the role? Because we always keep some roles in mind. (Weightage: 10)
2. Personality (confidence, focus, positivity, perseverance, teamwork etc) (weightage: 8)
3. College (weightage: 6) Even if the candidate is from IIT, the above 2 attributes play more importance. We have so many examples where candidates from IITs and other class A colleges have attitude and personality issues and they end up their career too short. While if candidate is from a tier C college and proficient in skills and possess fantastic attitude, s/he takes up good package and have a good successful life ahead.

Most importantly, at this stage the one factor which most of students fall short of is their awareness in the corporate and business mindset so they take decision based on college life, college brand, alumani network etc. Believe me, all these are left behind when you are in corporate life. Once you are in a reputed organisation, socially no one asks or bothered if you are from which college, IIT Bombay of NSUT or IIIT. All that matters is how good are you at your work. The college plays importance till your campus interviews and that's a significant importance but there also if you have studied in different stream and want to pursue separate career you LOOSE your CREDIBILITY of CLARITY and DECISION MAKING in the eyes of an interviewer and the company Even the foreign universities or foreign countries don't appreciate such candidates in their immigration who have studied 3-4 years in one stream and taking up another later. Actually you loose your advantage of your studies and your decisive personality. Moreover you also do injustice to the seat which you have secured in college in stream which you are not pursuing. May be some one more deserving could have taken that seat which you wasted. It's the wastage of our national resources which would have utilised better by someone else.

So my suggestion, always evaluate your Passion and Interest in the Career first and then pursue your profession in that career, period. Keep it simple. Definately you should aim for better colleges but college brand should not come in way of your purpose of life.

Keep your decision Simple. Simplicity is less draining and your energies are utilized most optimally to reach the pinnacle in the area of interest. Now the problem with most students is, they don't have awareness & 100% conviction in their areas of interest. In that case there are many scientific ways by which you can find out your area of interest and passion. Find that first and rest of your life will be sorted, else you will always be confused even after taking admissions in good colleges in streams which you don't like.

Opportunities are always there for the one who is expert in his/her skills, so be the best in what you like. Don't compromise on your stream which you like.

If you want to pursue masters abroad, your skills will take you heights. If you are passionate about your skills you will definitely excel in numerous heckathons contests and secure scholarship. Rather than proving to universities that why you took brand over your interest. Go simple, go with your intuition. If someone want to talk, I am happy to help. My number is +91 9899707755.

I want to pursue Mechanical but seeing everyone around me going for CS is making me rethink on my own decisions. I know that Core Engineering doesn't hold that much importance if not done from IITs but idk. I'm getting so much stressed about this. I don't know what will be my true path.

Just Remember This:
World has changed do drastic. And this internet boom allows us to get ourself skilled without going to such institutes.I did hard work and got IIT.But one of my friend did the same amount of hardwork just on data science by gathering resources online through Udemy and Coursera and he got a job of 72 lpa.Plans to hire me in his startup(comical).
Difference was just courage.

4:10 Sir should also keep in mind that not everyone takes cs only seeing the scope there, some really have the passion for it. In this way it is undermining those students who want to take cs because of passion and they could end up taking other branches just for the sake of iit tag. Otherwise a nice video, God bless you sir🙏🙏.And to those who have cs as a passion (not just because everyone is talking about it) just go for it as you will do great because of your skills and not just because of a tag.
