"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is a song by English pop rock band Tears for Fears from their second studio album Songs from the Big Chair (1985). An international success, the song peaked at number two in Ireland, Australia, and the United Kingdom and at number one in Canada, New Zealand, and on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and Cashbox.

This video is a bit different from what I normally do. This particular video is a nightmare to remaster as I have tried before...it's just one of those videos and I wasn't going to bother given that the official video has been remastered on the official channel on Youtube at 1920 x 1080. It's not an overly brilliant remaster, but you can only do so much with what you have got. So they remastered it as best they could, but while it is of course better than what the standard version looks like, it is pretty flat. So I had a thought, I will download the remastered video and see if I can possibly get any more out of it. And I was able to get it a little clearer, noticeable when I had the two lined up against each other and rebuilt the compression suffered from being on Youtube (Youtube compresses videos by up to 80%....yes you read that right).
I then edited it - I decided to remove the start and end. The start is just looking at a house and the end is a truck driving on a road for about 3 seconds. I then tried to sharpen it a touch more and then boosted the brightness and colour of the video as much as I could. It really is a horrible video. I ended up leaving the original audio on presume they must have done some remastering on it as it is quite good and sounded as good as any of the Flac tracks I compared it to, I gave the bass and treble a bit of a nudge. The song has some background noises which I thought was an issue with the video, but it is on all the audio I found. All up, I just wanted to see if I could make any difference to it but realistically the color/brightness is the main thing that makes it stand out a bit more and that's mainly in the second half.
This was a big song in 1985, realistically one of the biggest of the 80's and this video should be well embedded in the minds of anyone who enjoyed music at the time. It was apparently very big on MTV in the states and was on high rotation, while in Australia and do remember seeing it played a fair bit on Rage.
