Now that I've decided to really start saving by not buying unnecessary things, I've finally realized that having material objects do really begin to own you. I still look at newer model cars and admire (yes, I wish I had that car), but I'm just as grateful to have my car paid off and not making a monthly payment that allows me to save more. More than anything, I'm becoming aware of more important things in life that can't be bought like family, discipline, and self education...

When your grateful and appreciative for what you have, you find less reason to go out and buy stuff you don't need. That frees up time to spend it doing things that you love. Like spending time with family, going hiking, or just smelling the flowers. I'm so grateful for everything in my life and the people that truly love me. :)

At one time, i made a lot of money and pretty much bought what i wanted; designer items, luxury cars etc. I can PROMISE you items and more money than you need to operate does not make you happy. In fact, it will make you miserable. Satisfaction and value are found in rarity. Rarity = Living life on your terms, helping others live a joyous life, doing what you love and being able to explore the world and relationships.
Do NOT buy the lie. Large corporations want us indebted through mortgages, loans, cc debt so we are enslaved to show up and participate in their rat race...working to pay for the items we still don't own.

I think growing up so broke we found happiness in being grateful. I actually remember being really really broke for years wondering when we would get out of this hole? But still being really happy. We played basketball, ate beans and cornbread, and played board games. Money just wasn't a top priority. We just worked as hard as we could and played as hard as we could.

minimalism is the key! when you look at all the stuff we buy and drag thru life, that we dont need, none of my neighbors can get their cars in their garage because of the stuff, and some of them pay money each month for storage units, for more stuff that they cant fit into their house anymore

I've been to a poor part of Mexico where I have family and I'm totally thankful and grateful to have everything I have.... Maybe people need to think or see third world countries to wake them up?

I once gave a homeless lady a dollar and she looked at in disgust and asked is this it? Sickly ungrateful

I never understood the whole "Keeping up with the Jones" mentality.
Stuff never made me happy except Assets that put money in my pocket.

I like that... "You can look at the life that you and say 'I'm working on making it better but I am grateful for where I am' "

Two years ago when my daughter was pregnant I bought a nice 2012 Nissan Versa . I drive down to Florida to give it to her since she was just about to have a baby and I figured she'll need a car for work and to take the baby to doctors appointments. She looked at the car and said this car is a piece of s..t!! I figured after getting a job she would pay her own car insurance and after I finished the car payments she would have a very nice low mileage FREE car. Well, I finally said that's it! You haven't gotten a jfull time job and always have your hand out. I'm selling the car!! Now you can get any car you want just pay for it yourself! My father use to say if you acted like this that you were an ungrateful wretch! Now my daughter is trying to put the guilt trip on me for me deciding to sell it! I can't win!! I should've sold it two years ago when she had her little attitude!

All I want is the basic needs of life. Gratitude and feel blessed for what I have. Happiness, joy and peace is within us.
That is what we are looking for is happiness and peace.

The sad thing is that alot of people think they are entitled to stuff now days and wont thank-you because they think they deserve it.

I must be truly happy. I was driving down my country road the other morning and the sun was rising directly in front of me and the full moon was setting directly behind me. It was an awesome sight and made my day...thank you GOD!!!

Be happy with what you have. That applies to all aspects of life.

This also depends on the type of person someone is.  Some breathe and live materialism while others really don't think about it.  I like the keep it simple approach and appreciate whatever it is we have.
