In my experience money can’t buy happiness. I bought a lot of fancy things throughout my life. A fast car, a nice watch, expensive clothes, phones and what not. It never made me any happier. I rather have all the money saved up in the bank and live a normal simple life. However what in fact made me happy where usually trips and traveling. And not having to count every penny on those trips is a nice thing. But other than that.... I’m done with spending money on stupid materialistic things...

There is a phrase I really like: money isn't everything. Until you have none. Then it's everything

my favorite vietnamese pho restaurant owner has been wearing the same sweater for 10 years. that's some hardcore minimalism

The more I've practiced a minimalist perspective on life, the more I've realized how little I actually need. When I was younger, I was like everyone else. I wanted to live in a mansion, a giant house, a house on the beach, a castle, the bigger and grander the better. Now that I'm older, I find those things much less appealing. Even though my house is the size of a standard American home, I think it's too big. Why do I need a dedicated office? Wouldn't a desk in the corner work just as well? Why do we need a guest bed? Wouldn't a comfortable pull out sofa be just as fine? I have too many kitchen utensils and dishes. Too many mugs. Too many books- even for someone who absolutely loves books. I find that the more I have, the more I want to get rid of. Is there a word for that? Anyway, I just find that the more I have embraced the things I already have, the less unhappy I feel. I am satisfied with my 2 year old phone. I am satisfied with a computer that is just a little slow. I am satisfied with the things I have and I don't feel empty anymore.

yes, money doesn't buy happiness but it sure rents a lot of it!

This obsession with getting people to "like" your life/style or getting "friends" is a very shallow/materialistic existence. Social media is an oxymoron.

If you have your health, good friends, family and enough to meet your basic daily needs, you have all you need.

Shun materialism, pay off your debt, live below your means and escape the rat race
Then you can experience true freedom and really enjoy life and all the excitement it brings

Great video Matt!

I've felt the same for a while. A couple things have stuck out for me.
1. "Happiness isn't pleasure, it's peace."-Will Smith
2. Experiences are more valuable than temporary "happiness" from nonessential items.

That's why I switch to Instagram stories instead of posting photos.
You can share stories without stressing whether you get enough likes.
Honestly I never liked the "like" feature.

Matt, going to be completely candid here. You have inspired and changed my life as a creative entrepreneur over this last year. It is because of incredible and thought provoking content like THIS! Thank you from myself and all the creators around the world who you continue to move, continue to inspire. You have such a fantastic way of simplifying and delivering your message (have you ever considered minimalism? :D haha). Truly! I have been creating more content myself and pushing my creativity as of recently; in my personal life and with my business. THANK YOU brother, and just keep being so authentically you! Rich, successful humans should stop telling everyone else about how money doesn't bring them any satisfaction. It's comical at best. Absurd.

Love your videos and they have struck a chord with me. Today I have been decluttering the house, clothes dropped off at the charity shop, recycling and buying my new minimalist wardrobe. Feels great thank you so much.
