Here's The Worst Neighborhood In Wilmington, North Carolina

Parts of Wilmington are really beat up.

For this video, I drove the worst part of Wilmington, North Carolina. This is an area that’s just just south and east from downtown Wilmington, or Wilmington’s historic district. This is an area with high crime and lots of poverty. The day was warm, but cloudy. It was Thursday, December 24, 2020 at about noon.

I’m going to begin the video in a neighborhood that’s just adjacent to the bad part of town and then drive to the bad part of town to lend some perspective on just how quickly Wilmington goes from nice, historic homes which are well maintained and where crime is low, to the bad part of town with high levels of crime, drug sales and shootings.

Put this: Wilmington is an old port city, located on the banks of the Cape Fear River. This part of town is about 10 miles from the nearest beach community.

I didn't see the drug dealing, rows of broken down unkept homes. I saw a working class neighborhood where people were preparing for the holidays

Only crime I saw was you running a red light homie. Also, Castle Arts district is far from the worst place in Wilmington.

Not all that bad. In 1965, on the way back home to the mountains from our first vacation trip to the outer banks, our family stayed at a “rooming house” in Wilmington. They would call them “Bed and Breakfasts” today. The place was run by an elderly black lady who could cook the finest breakfast I’ve ever had, before or since. I can still remember waking up and smelling the bacon and biscuits. Great memory of Wilmington.

I don’t see boarded up homes, gaping holes in roofs, junk in a lot of yards. I’ve seen worse

This is my hometown. But the only crime I saw on this was at 2:20 failure to stop lol

If this is the worst part of Wilmington, the rest of town must be amazing. I'm seeing well-kept homes for the most part. Doesn't look bad at all.

Honestly looks like a really nice place, homes and streets are clean, people have nice cars. If that's the worst, then Wilmington seems like a nice place

Love how the jump cuts in this cut out the ~nicer homes~ to fit this “worst part” narrative. This is where I spend most of my time in town. You passed my bf’s house, but cut it out (not that it’s anything special). Just because it’s a more affordable part of town doesn’t mean it’s bad. Rent is still outrageous for what it is. Most of the 2 and 3 bedrooms you passed would still cost you $1300-2000+ a month before utilities. I understand it’s not flashy here, but the sense of community is strong. People care about their neighbors and not in a superficial way. There are way more crime filled areas of town than The Bottom. Even as a woman, I’ve never really felt that unsafe walking around this area by myself, even after dark. Go to Creekwood bro. The Bottom doesn’t even compare.

Clearly the person doing this video has no clue about Wilmington.

Two things: one, what is your process for determining a 'bad neighborhood' because you drove thorough a historic section, a shopping district, an industrial district, and a high end residential district. I've spent a ton of time in all the places you showed. It isn't dangerous. Two, there are a couple of significantly worse ones in ILM, both pretty close to where you stayed. Plus you did it on a Thursday during the day. So I'm not sure what the point of all this was? Are you are just shaming areas for not looking the way you expect, but you're scared to go to actual rough areas and it was the closest you could find to show your viewers? Or you just heard Wilmington was "scary" and drove though the first low income neighborhood you came to? If your videos actually have a point, and you're trying to highlight crime, then take the advice of some of the other commenters and drive around some of the neighborhoods they mentioned after dark.

I’m from Wilmington. And that area has always been predominantly black. In recent years it has been gentrified. All through castle st. So what this video did was take you from a Caucasian area to where African Americans mainly reside. I’m genuinely offended. Then proceeded to call it the worst. Are you from here?, Do you know Wilmington’s history?. This place was once a Black MECCA ! And how fucking dare you.

I’m a wilmingtonian. Born and raised 43 yrs. That part of town is near the downtown area. Go near the East Side of town ( creek wood). It’s sad they had to build a second satellite police station over there to keep the crime down

Clean, no garbage on the street, no homeless, no bars on all the low windows, no vacant houses, no abandon cars, no tall iron fences around yards, no recyclers going in the yards digging through people's trash. As looks go, not bad.

I don’t agree with this. I’ve lived in this neighborhood over 20 years never had a problem. If it is so bad why people are buying all the open property
