Fuzzlord Effects Riff Master OC44 Demo - Tony Iommi Rangemaster Treble Booster

Показать описание

Inspired by Tony Iommi’s modified Dallas Arbiter Rangemaster effect unit used throughout the classic Black Sabbath recordings of the 1970’s, this pedal is designed to overdrive the front end of a slightly saturated tube amplifier into thick harmonic distortion while accentuating response and gain across a selected range of frequencies.

Each Fuzzlord Riff Master OC44 is loaded with a hand selected, exceptionally rare, NOS Philips/Mullard “Black Glass” OC44 Germanium transistor, as used in the original amp-top units from the 60’s. A four-position Frequency Attenuation Control sets the passband of boost, which can be adjusted from the stock treble boost setting through to a smooth, harmonically rich, full range fuzz. The circuit provides gain of up to 24db across the boosted frequency range, which proves highly responsive to both pick attack and guitar volume setting.

Controls

BOOST – Adjusts the overall volume level and gain.

FAC – Sets the frequency range of the boost. A larger range of boost yields less signal attenuation at lower frequencies, resulting in more bass, volume, sustain, and gain.

The straightforward setup shown here represents Tony's early Sabbath sound better than I've heard anywhere else. It's spot on and quite remarkable.
Mission accomplished, good job boys.

Thanks for remembering Rory Gallagher. He's often skipped when the Rangemaster is discussed, which makes me want to throw things. Also sick Megalomania riffage into Under the Sun.

Great demo and playing Steve! Really cool to hear the old Sabbath live tone pulled of so well today, a bit of a lost sound! This was a blast to do Steve, and really appreciate everything you do. My favorite YouTube channel for sure!

The most doom thing ever is playing doom while playing doom metal on a guitar while listening to doom metal

Love Tony Iommi. He was so Under-Rated. Every Riff was so Evil = A National Acrobat, Supernaut, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Hole in the Sky . . . the list goes on & on. Black Sabbath was Epic.

The three pillars of Mr Iommi’s tone is first and foremost TREBLE/VOLUME. Always treble and volume over distortion. It’s the treble that drives the amps gain stage and breaks up the signal and affects the tone. Early rock tone was more an overload than a direct distortion (unless you slice the speaker). This philosophy was the same for Brian May, Jimmy Page, and plenty others. Second, detuned or lighter gauge strings. It gives the strings that bellowy sound that is immediately recognizable and changes the timbre of the initial picking attack. Third, cant play it without an Sg!

But remember this, you obviously are never going to get an exact tone match because of the studio effects and compression and stuff like that. Also I bet iommi’s tone changed all the time on stage. Just listen to live performances and sometimes you’ll find his tone is incredibly bass heavy pretty often.

Point is, have fun with it and make it your own.

(P.s. that laney head is beautiful)

Sounds awesome, bravo guys! I chase the Iommi tone... mostly through a 2012 SG Standard with John Birch Magnum pickups, a 1968 Sunn Sentra I, and a Catlinbread Sabra Cadabra. I get close, but not as close as this you nailed it.
