Let's be honest, in this new age of pitching. You would have to rewire yourself from seeing 80-105 mph to 30-50 mph. 😂

I wonder if it’s a mind game thing like “damn I better nuke this or I suck” or if you’re really onto something here…… can you imagine someone doing this during the WS because the stats support it? Lol

Even my 8U travel kids experience this to an extent. They'll face 3-4 pitchers with similar/typical velocity for that age group, and then some kid takes the mound and starts throwing those slower, high-arc'ing lollipops. The pitches not only come in at a different speed, but also come thru the zone at a completely different angle. Can really mess with a hitter's timing and swing plane.

A fun award could be “best position player relief appearance”. Someone can hopefully create a better name, but that could be a fun award.

Of all the "could a random person do this sports jobs" hypothetical scenarios out there, I feel like Pitchers have the best chance of a total nobody having vague mild success because of stuff like this

Not that theyd be GOOD but like...a normal guy could probably luck into a zero run inning if hes got an mlb defense helping him out (more than any other random guy in a major sport situation at least)

Freddie Freeman vs Anthony Rizzo has to be my favorite matchup lol

Position players have wised up significantly this year and a lot of their pitches are these slow, awkward lobs that no one's actually trained to hit, but there's also more to it. There was one I saw in a recent game who was throwing at 40 mph, but every few pitches he slipped in a fastball and the batter wasn't remotely ready for the change in speed. The 40 mph lobs turned an 80 mph pitch deadly.

Im feeling like the outfielder players have a decent understanding of how to throw a pitch pretty well considering they're constantly catching them. Doubtful that a lot of them get it but, theres probably a handful that understand how to setup a pitch to be received. The blowout and replacing of the pitcher makes sense tbh.

The new Nolan Ryan’s of baseball😂 (we need to see more position players throw knuckle balls when pitching)

Its like you spend your whole life training how to jump over fast, low, supercars while driving at you, then one day a firetruck just spawns in

I believe it's a combination of 3 things.
1) unwritten rules saying if it's close swing when non pitchers pitch.
2) the location of almost every pitch in the clip being on the edge of the zone or slightly outside the zone.
3) the speed and lob of the pitch makes it so damn tempting to swing

It’s b/c 95 is the new 90 nowadays. Doesn’t seems much of a difference but it is. It’s like when you get off the freeway and can still go 50 mph but still you feel your going really slow, the baseball feels like it takes forever to get to you and it causes your to have a miss timed stride, be slightly off balance and pull shoulders too early

while all the managers are calling the actual bullpen and screaming "what are we payin' ya guys for???"

This proves that you don’t need super high velocity

I don’t get why or even how people hate this. Like baseball is a game, this is fun and funny. Have fun bro

We give a reward every year to the best pitcher in both leagues named after a guy who pitched exactly like this.

A question that gets asked a lot. If you pitched against major leaguers could you get one of them out facing all 9 batters. The answer is absolutely yes

It would be weird facing 50mph BP pitches when you've been geared up for 90-100mph the whole game. But also, keep in mind: the teams at the plate are a dozen runs in the lead and aren't grinding it out to tie it or go ahead. An unwritten mercy rule is in play, and everyone just wants to go home.
