These birds live 8 feet outside my window. Baby loons are super cute. Loons making supernatural noises at 4 am is not cute.

Love this sound. Miss it so much. Brings tears to my eyes. Grow up in an environment like this and leave. You know, deep in your soul you have to return. Natures lullaby.

If you've never hung out and listened to the loons on a still northern Minnesota lake, on a mid-summer night, with a wet golden retriever by your side, you don't know what you're missing.

I love this sound. I live on Lake of the Woods in Northwestern Ontario and as soon as I can open my windows in the spring, the ice is gone and the loons are back, I sleep so well listening to them all night long. Miss them very much in the winter. Consider myself lucky, there's nothing like it.

Now that's beautiful to hear. It reminds me of the north.

Early mornings, with swirling mist gently spilling over the rising sun and onto the water. And in the distance you can hear the call. The eerie mournful, chilling call ricocheting off the dawn It is the embodiment of longing, the longing that we share to live as they do. Secluded, wild and free.

I remember the first time I heard the mournful wail of a loon. Was on Lake Brandy in northern Minnesota. A storm was rolling in a distance away but close enough to faintly hear the thunder. As the sun set and the sky was awake with lightning and thunder still quietly in the distance the long beautiful yet sad wail of the loon broke the somewhat silenced landscape. I knew right then that I was in love with my home, and that I'll never leave.

I love this sound! It reminds me of sleeping by the water on a remote campsite. Thank you for posting.

There are four types of the calls. Each one represents a social interaction. Just amazing

These are the sounds I hear just about every summer night because I live on a lake in northern Maine. I wait for them every night because I find them sooo beautiful.

Sounds exactly like my camping trips to the Adirondacks. I would lay in my tent and just listen until I fell asleep. Those are some of my most cherished memories.

Haunting, yes. But peaceful. Almost meditative. The haunting aspect is that it sound other worldly, transcendent. Beautiful.

This is one extraordinary bird, extremely beautiful bird, and with a calling that will never be forgotten. It reminds me of a movie long ago about Big Foot. The Loon is my favorite bird, by a long shot.

Many a night I stay up to listen to the loons, about an hour north of sudbury ontario. Haunting and beautiful.

Was out in the lake one evening and as I swam closer to a loon it dissapeared under the water.
The water was so clear that I could see it swimming right passed me so gracefully under the water. I love our state bird.

Honestly, this is satisfying in an eerie way. In a week me and some family members are driving up to Wisconsin for two full weeks to get away from electronics, and just technology in general, at these three cottages. It’s next to a lake that looks almost exactly like the one in the picture, surprisingly. When I was a little kid, and still now, my grandmother, father, etc, told stories to me about loons.

They sound almost like wolves or coyotes at first, and the echo at the end always gives you goosebumps

I spent my summers in Algonquin Park in Ontario - nothing better than sitting at the edge of the lake and listening to the loons. Thank you. I remember...
