Myanmar Red Cross volunteers providing a lifeline to divided communities in Rakhine
In 2012, outbreaks of violence between ethnic Rakhine and Muslim communities left dozens dead and over 100,000 people displaced in Myanmar. Entire villages were burnt to the ground leaving many homes damaged or destroyed. Over seven months later and thousands of families are still living in displacement camps in Rakhine, dependent upon emergency aid. The Myanmar Red Cross Society has been providing assistance since the first outbreaks of violence, to help meet the urgent humanitarian needs of all of the communities affected.
