It's dumb because what happens is you get yielded by the colleges and rejected by the ivy leagues so now there's nowhere for you to go.

It makes sense but it’s also kind of annoying sometimes. Especially for those of us who have Ivy League level grades/applicstions but we don’t want to or can’t afford to go there. Or perhaps there’s a specific program at a public school that’s better than the Ivies.

This is certainly true with some schools, but I'm pretty sure Case Western refuses to participate in yield protection.

Only thing I’d have to say to such colleges is: “Did it ever occur to you that maybe my choice of college is motivated by other things like cost, location, or maybe whether or not I’m assigned 300+ hours of homework a week?”
