This week I would like to talk about how to spot the warning signs of a stroke by using the B.E.F.A.S.T. acronym.

Before my stroke three years ago. I had the ringing of the ears, feeling like I had water in my ears or sometimes feeling like I was underwater. Days before my TIA stroke I woke up holding on to the walls because I had no balance, I threw up the night before, on the morning of stroke I could not open my eyes, my body was very heavy I could not get up, when I tried to wake my husband I could not lift my arm to touch him, I was very slow to speak words would not come out, when I finally was able to get up, my eyes were cross, my vision was off, things were on top of each other instead of side by side. After I woke up my husband I told him I think I’m having a stroke. He gave me an aspirin and rush me to hospital. Thank God he was home that morning he saved me from side effects. I don’t know why but a few weeks before the stroke I was reading all kinds of things about what to look for, and what to do in case of stroke. I thank God that I am still here with my family. I was 53 years old, not over weight, but I do have high cholesterol. Do take care of your health.

Thank you my daughter had a stroke last year she was only 29. Thank God she was at work & they got her help right away. She is doing great she is back to work she is a manager at Honda now she was a manager at the Ford agency they are the same dealership🦋💚🥰🙏🌻*;0)

My grandfather, had strokes; my mother had 42 including TIA's; and one of my brothers has also had a stroke....so there is a lot in my family. Thank you so much for your wonderful advise, and I am thankful you popped up on my screen because now I can help myself and hubby as his family also has had stroke.

1. I am allergic: blurred vision can occur anytime.
2. I stutter when I am tired or become emotional.
So, for me, the certain signs are reduced to 1. checking the balance and 2. the simmetry of raising my arms.
Thank you for the insight. It is useful for me. (My father died from a single but massive brain stroke.)

I had a massive stroke on july 2nd 2022. Before my stroke, i noticed that i felt very dizzy, a little blurred vision, a hard time with remembering words, and most noticeable- a tingling in my face. Almost felt like a burning sensation for about 2-3hrs off and on. Next thing i knew, i got very sick to my stomach and my right side was very heavy. Very hard to pick up my arm and leg and move.

I guess the symptoms differ depending on where in the brain the stroke occurs. My dad had one many years ago, while going for a walk. It didn't cause him to stumble or fall, so apparently it was not near a motor area in his brain. The effects of his stroke were strictly intellectual (cruel irony, in his case). He forgot everything that was not "hard-wired", i.e., he remember who he was, he remembered that he was married to my mother and had children, and (thankfully) still remembered who we were, and could still speak. But, other than that, his mind was a blank slate. He had been a walking encyclopedia, but no longer could remember anything that he'd learned. He was able to recall the stroke, though, and described it as a vision of the palisades slipping into the ocean.
