Protest demanding removal of Antioch police officer

Jose Gongora-Pat and Adrianna Camarena joined a protest Wednesday morning in front of Antioch Mayor Sean Wright's place of business, demanding for the removal of Officer Michael Mellone from the Antioch Police Department (APD). Prior to Mellone's move to the APD from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) in 2019, the Department of Police Accountability had issued a recommendation of suspension for Mellone for his involvement in the killing of Luis Gongora-Pat in San Francisco's Mission District. Luis was Jorge's brother. Critics say the APD did not thoroughly investigate Mellone before he left the SFPD, a move seen as a means to evade accountability. (Aly Brown/ThePress)
