I actually stayed here back in May after doing the Shimanami Kaido! The hotel common area, select shops, included breakfast, and bakery were nice but my room didn't have great circulation and was really humid. You could feel the dankness once you walked into the hotel wing where the rooms are. Maybe I'll have to give it another chance. The Shimanami Kaido is by far the coolest thing I've ever experienced in Japan though, and they even have ebikes for those of us in less tip top shape!

Had a friend tell me about this place. He only recently finished his bike across all of Japan. He did also show me all of his Stealth camping spots and how many times he just put his stuff in a bush when he was walking around a city.

Visited U2 in Onomichi about five years ago, and I still remember it fondly. Onomichi itself is a gem of a town, with a classic Japanese shopping arcade straight from the 1980s and wonderful walking path among its many temples on the slopes of the city. So don't miss out on exploring the city itself.

Incidentally, it was also the setting of a pretty much forgotten anime series Kamichu, which showcases the charms of the city quite nicely. Yakuza 6's beginning also depicts Onomichi, and it has been used as a setting in other media too, maybe because it has that kind of nostalgic retro-Japan vibe.
