I'm relieved it's not one that appears in adulthood, the onset must be horrible

A shower filter made a huge difference for me. I think it was the chloramines used to disinfect, giving me hives. Found it on Amazon.

I had a student who was allergic to water. It was so hard—he couldn’t do PE and had to take the elevator upstairs to class because if he started to sweat he would break out in painful hives. Super nice kid and really smart. Just the worst allergy…

I’m not allergic to water, but I’m allergic to the chemicals they use to clean the water. At least down here. If I shower in unsoftened water for to long my skin will dry out and start to get hives, mainly on my chest, and that’s especially where it starts, the back of my knees also feel like my skin is super dry and tight.

Also if me or my siblings and mom drink unfiltered water or for my siblings non spring water we get head aches that can last for days on end, even if we only drink a cup of it.

Sometimes we get a fever to but I don’t drink unfiltered water enough to remember if we do often lol 😂

My brother had it when he was younger. It was insane for gym class when we had to swim and they needed to always check the temperature of the water to see if he could go in it or not. They did tests with an ice pack and his arm would have huge hives. Thankfully he grew out of it when he turned 15

I’m kinda of the opposite, in addition to my dozens x100 food, animal, pollens, medicatios allergies I have to shower twice per day to stop breaking out in hives.

Wowza! I can’t wrap my brain around a water allergy— our bodies have so much water, how do people with a water allergy survive? Do their bodies not react to the water in the body/on a cellular level or when drinking fluids?

I have a similar situation. Almost sure I have aquagenic pruritus. No hives, just intense itching for between 20 mins and 2 hours. There are ways I can mitigate it, but nothing definitive, even sweating can trigger it.
Ironically, if I take a warm/hot shower it seems to suppress my symptoms/trigger for about 24 hours. Someday I'd like to see an allergist about it, but haven't yet. I also have urticaria dermatographia - from talking to my parents, the former is from my paternal side, the latter from my maternal line.

My ex used to have minor hives on his back any time he showered, swam, etc. they didn’t seem to bother him and they always went away pretty quickly

I developed cold urticaria out of absolutely nowhere when I turned 20 years old. It’s so bad that getting out of the shower or a cool breeze give me terrible itching hives. I’m in Canada, so winter is genuinely suffrage for me. In the winter as soon as I get home, I take a “sharp kitchen object” (censored cuz YouTube is sensitive) and scrape my skin extremely hard.

I had that when I was young. I haven’t had any problems with it since I was about 25.
