I often hear people say "Lexus is just a Toyota" like it's a bad thing. Toyota is one of the most reliable vehicles in the world... adding some luxury on top of it just makes it better, not worse.

Coming from a 1999 Lexus RX300 with 410k miles I'd argue from a mechanical service, simplicity and reliability perspective, the naturally aspirated NX250 in either front or all wheel drive is the one most should be buying if you keep your vehicles longer than most. The naturally aspirated RAV 4 engine without the turbo and with the 8 speed automatic is more than enough. As a mechanical technical person, turbos, cvt's and hybrid systems with a battery pack that needs replacing adds unnecessary complexity and cost but most who don't know anything about cars and doing their own service and maintenance will of course opt for the turbo and hybrid.

We love our 2017 NX. Nearly 70k miles just standard service. The only repair we had to do was to replace the water pump. We will replace our NX next month with a new NX. Lexus nails it.

The comfort level of the NX is head and shoulders above any RAV4–not that the RAV4 is a bad vehicle—just no where near as comfortable or quiet. We keep our vehicles forever, so I look for durability in a car—the 2.5 four cylinder at 203 HP is far better that it used to be a couple decades ago at around 160ish HP. I’m not a lover of turbocharged engines—increases wear and tear—and at a 50G warm up for the price tag, I’m not going to buy one of these every two years. I will likely never lease a vehicle again—once was punishment enough. Believe it or not, we aren’t all millionaires out here in the real world—albeit, there are a lot of folks way over their head in debt…

Toyota Rav4 is the only vehicle I know of to have fallen from a elevated highway accident landed on all fours with passengers surviving

Wish it had more leg room in the back. I like my passengers to be decently comfortable.

Just a few thousand dollars more than a fully loaded Rav 4. I’ll take it. I’ll go fast in my sports car.

I drive Lexus NX350 with the 2.4 liter turbocharged engine. It is 275 horsepower with 317 lb ft of torque. Now try to tell me it’s a RAV 4. I have worked in the automotive industry for 37 years to know better than to make a blanket statement like you have. the suspension parts are different . The brakes are different. The shift points of the electronically controlled transmission are different. Seats are different, dash is different. more sound deadening insulation, etc, etc. Apparently you don’t understand the true definition of the word “platform” means. Yes, they are build on the same platform, however they are orally different vehicle in every other respect. The only parts they share are the cowl and the transmission. Now tell me it’s basically a RAV 4. This is why most people who review vehicles online have no business doing reviews in vehicle. I have been a consultant to several automotive manufacturers and dealerships in my career. Please come back to the table with correct information.

We bought an NX250 over RAV4 because it has the same reliable powertrain, NA engine, 87 octane gas, but nicer interior. Also no run flats, has spare tire. For me the lack of a sunroof was a positive since those always break or leak eventually. Detractors will say the price premium is not worth it over a RAV4 which is a fair point.

The floor pan is RAV4 on all of them, that’s the only part they share. The 250 uses the RAV4 powertrain

Thanks for the video. Trying to decide on a nice small SUV. I’m in north Texas where they are ALL pre-sold before they hit the lots. People love their baby Lexus.

Have a question. When you do acceleration, you mentioned “weird” …. what did you mean?

How would driving highways at 70+ mph from northeast to Florida be in this "weird" NX 250?
