FRAME: “Have you ever seen a spider before? What do you know about spiders?”

FOCUS: “In this video you’re going to see some spiders. As you watch, look at what they are building. Try to count how many legs the spiders have.”

FOLLOW-UP: “What were the spiders building? How many legs did the spiders have? What else did you see?”

ACTIVITY IDEAS
---------------------------

LIFE-SIZE WEB: Use furniture and some yarn to turn the children into web-making spiders! Position chairs in a circle a few feet from one another. Have children walk from one chair to another while holding a spool of yarn or twine. Or have children sit in a circle, tossing the ball of yarn back and forth across the circle. The strings should cross over one another, making the web come alive!

STICKY WEBS: Talk about how spiders build webs that are sticky so they can catch bugs to eat. Try it out using sticky contact paper. What kinds of things can you catch to eat in your web? Pretend different collage or arts and crafts materials are insects that spiders catch in their webs.
