How to Stop Apps From Opening on Startup on Mac

Loads of apps launch when I start my Mac even though no objects in that + and - box in your first example what should I do?

The author’s advice does not work. Here is what you need to do: when logging or restarting your mac, there is an option nearly everyone does not pay attention to.

“Reopen windows when logging back in.”

UNcheckmark that box, then log out.

You won’t encounter the problem any more and the box STAYS unchecked.

I am trying to stop Discord from opening on startup. In the toolbar, it's not set to 'Open at Login', it's not in the list of login items in System Preferences, and it's not in the list of apps allowed to run in the background. There is nothing to suggest that it should be auto launching. Any ideas? Thanks.

I love how straight to the point is but perhaps a brief pause between steps or slightly slower pace. not much slower, just itty-bitty tiny bit because it does take a little longer when you’re doing it for the first time or as in my case, my OS is not the same so things are organized a bit differently

My MBP is about 5years old and the 'login Items' looks nothing like this (I have Monterey 12.3.1). On mine Login Items is in the 'Users and Groups' section of 'System Preferences'. And there the option is to HIDE the application and NOT to remove it at boot-up. In the 'Login Items' there are just 2 items and they are insignificant, none of the major items that are upwards of 500MB in size like the Adobe CC stuff ( I rarely use Photoshop but need it installed). And the Adobe stuff is just one item that doesn't show in the 'login items'. There are at least 10!!!! Any thoughts how I can stop them from starting at boot-up?

I having a different issue.. I have apps opening on start up but they are not being listed at "login items"
