Can confirm two things:

1. Material duping seems to be much more successful in areas where there aren't a lot of other entities present (i.e. Valor Island).
2. Even if you think you got the dupe when pausing quick, the tell is if both dropped bows drop at the same spot and not in separate spots behind you.

USEFUL TIMING TIP:
- Jump into the menu while the item is still fusing to the arrow to lengthen the necessary '+' pressing time. You will notice the first bow doesn't drop so quickly (which, if it did, is a sign that you weren't fast enough).

*** You will know you did a good job if the green swirly effect hasn't dissipated completely when you jump into the item menu.

You can fast dupe by placing your back to a mid-length wall and doing the same swap-glitch. If you do it right, you’ll get a prompt that you can’t place an item there, and an extra one will appear. The key is finding the right height of wall

It might just be a placebo effect, but I found it to be easier with only two bows in my inventory; equip the first one and then when it drops the second one will switch to the first slot, kinda like duplicating items in Pokemon Colosseum by switching the item order around while battling

If you have problems clicking +, you can change your inventory button to something like A in your controller settings if thats easier to press for you

the trick is unpausing and pausing before the dropped bow spawns in the world, if you see a dropped bow you were too slow. The trick is to get both bows to drop at the same time on the same frame.

This is great and the game balance warning is appreciated. I just duped my hylian shield so I have 3 as I assume I will have a house to decorate and will want at least one if not 2 for that. Also got a few diamonds as its my strongest fuse right now but I'm not using them

I discovered that after you select weapon to dubl, you must close the pause menus first, and only then do as in the video, or it doesn't work! Have fun!)

I would like to add that it is more difficult to dupe some items with the bow glitch than it is for others. In my case, I had a much harder time duping Ancient Blades than I did Star Fragments.

I suspect this has something to do with how long it takes for the game to load the item into your arrow. Since this glitch relies on you exploiting the frames in-between when you select the item to fuse and when it is actually loaded onto to the arrow, how long it takes for each individual item to load ends up making the duplication window different across all items as shorter load times mean shorter windows.

As an example;
For the Ancient Blade, there's not really all that much to load so the game is able to load the item pretty quick, thus making the window in which you are able to pull off the dupe glitch smaller.
But for Star Fragments, since they also emit light it probably takes a couple more frames for the game to load it fully, which makes the duplication timing much more generous.

Very useful trick: try to dupe items on the sky ilands with LOW GRAVITY. For example, Water Temple (and islands around it).
Glitch based on item drop timing, you must quick close and open menu BEFORE the item hits the floor (or fall close enough to floor). And if gravity is low - you can do it easier.

I found a way to guarantee that you did the item dupe glitch correct
(This first step isn't necessary, but it makes it significantly easier to tell)
1) before beginning, face Link left relative to the camera so the area behind him is easily visible even with the menu open
2) proceed through the glitch until you close and reopen the menu in quick succession
3) if you can NOT see the bow visible behind Lin, that means you did the glitch correctly; otherwise, just close the menu and pick up your bow and try again

Changing the button mapping in the settings so that your pause is Y makes it a hell of a lot easier to close and open the menu fast enough for this glitch to work. Also, somebody else mentioned pausing mid-jump to increase the available time frame to pull it off. I just thought I’d include that second but here as doing both of those two things in conjunction has made this glitch a hell of a lot simpler do.
