"Wouldn't it be funny if under this he was a nice Jewish boy?" I love the irony... Totie Fields had no idea that Gene's mother was indeed watching.

The best part of this video is when she tells Gene you cant hide the hook...you hear Ace backstage laugh! Ha mistake his cackle!

In 1974, this must have shook up a few people. Kudos to Mike for having them on the show

The reason why Totie Fields was great in this episode was because even though Chaim (aka "Gene Simmons") Witz was trying to shock the audience with his "The Demon" persona, she saw right through it and could tell he was a mensch from back in Eretz Yisrael. "Is your mother watching?" "Just a nice Jewish boy." "You can't hide the hook!" That's why she called him out.

I wanted to say and can’t believe no one else has commented on how great Paul’s voice is on Firehouse, best I’ve heard him sing it.

Gene did a good job, but you can definitely tell he's nervous. And his mom was definitely watching.

Mike Douglas Show was so under rated but presented so many huge acts before they were superstars. Even Gene Simmons admitted Mike Douglas was so influential in there meteoric rise.

The Mike Douglas thing was so weird. He was the squarest guy in the universe, but he had amazing guests, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Zappa, Patti Smith

I'm sitting here reading Ace's book No Regrets and came to page 120 where he talks about this interview. Had to check it out. Totie Fields is priceless! I love Ace and Paul is not only a prolific songwriter but IMHO one of the greatest frontmen in rock history. On December 29, 1977, I went to my first concert. I was 12. It was KISS ... and it was awesome!

Imagine being able to show Mike Douglas in that interview the final concert of Kiss after a 50 year career

Totie Fields (to Gene’s left) was a legendary comedienne who died in her 40’s from a blood clot. She was on Laugh-In and used to tour all over the country. Loved that she was on this show and delivered some ball busting to Gene, which was normal and expected on Mike Douglas and probably why she was booked on the same show . Part of the early Kiss act was to be outrageous and play foil to the status quo.

Gene is a master at playing to the crowd..he knows how to use makeup, costume, outrageous appearance to maximise commercial exposure…clearly, it was all about making $$$ and Totie saw right through it !

Totie Fields with her "you cant hide the Hook" remark was absolutely priceless. R.I.P.🪦 Ms.Totie Fields taken way too soon. 1930/1978

Gene Simmons is one of the wealthiest rock stars in the world now. And still playing live with KISS.
