Sometimes it's hard to know what bike to choose when buying your first or next spin bike.
One of the main features of a spin bike is the resistance and what type that is exactly.

Well here I've given a full breakdown of what to look out for in a magnetic and friction-resistance spin bike.

Thank you. Magnetic for me. Really quiet. I made the correct choice fortunately despite seeing your video post-purchase.

This was exactly the kind of comparison video I was looking for, thank you! Also you should remove the background music during the noise test lol

I'm a magnetic fan. I have a magnetic rower, stairstepper and bike. The reasons are they are whisper quiet, my spin bike I can carry on a conversation at normal volume. To be clear, I make more noise breathing heavy than the machines. This is advantageous for noise sensitive spaces. Additionally, they offer better tracking of performance. You can pick a level of resistance instead of turning a knob, if the knob doesn't really have performance increments. So spin bikes boasting 100 levels of resistance isn't really accessible in terms of fine tuning as you use the machine. Whereas a magnetic resistance machine, you pick a level of resistance and it is instantly accessible and trackable. The only consideration is that high priced magnetic machines offer more resistance. The only negative for magnetic that offers high resistance for strong users is price compared o non-magnetic versions.

The background music is slightly a bit too loud so I can't really hear both bikes noise level very well but all the same, it looks like the magnetic resistance is much better in terms of noise level. Great video.👍🏻

9:40 Permanent magnets wear out too. It's just a matter of how much you use them. Electromagnets would be ideal.

Great explanation and review of both bike technology. Im going to get the magnetic bike it sound like a better quality ride with less noise. Worth the extra money.

Pro-tip: I was able to tell which bike he prefers to ride within 5 seconds of the video... the better pedals are on the magnetic resistance bike. I'm gonna pick up an Echelon EX3 myself.

It would have been better to have the music off during the noise test

Hello
Can so advise me please?
I'm about to buy a Body bike supreme and it's a friction resistance. I saw this video and now I'm hesitant between the supreme bike and a magnetic bike
Thanks in advance

Why you have silly music playing on the background when you are testing noise levels?

Buv you so lit ay, you legicktit cuzzy like f yess... Da bike I just got has electromagnetic automatic resistance transfer... Except it had a broken computer when it arrived so now they will send me another one for warranty replacement. And it weighs 59kg... Hope the new one works ay!

Nobody ever mentions that magnets require some speed to begin to offer resistance, so what is the magnetic resistance at very low RPM? Is it enough to simulate a steep climb?

Give me friction resistance. Quiet is irrelevant

how durable is that joroto x2 magnetic?

What do you do when the magnetic resistance is so strong even at the lowest knob setting? I hardly add any resistance because of this issue

Can you do different resistance or will that do more harm than good??

Even better I ordered a LIFE SPAN FITNESS SM410 magnetic, looks almost identical to the Joroto X2, I had to go for reliability after having my automatic bikes computer break!... That should sort me out!

Never buy friction resistance bike. I always smell burnt ordors due to friction between fly wheel and brake pad. I don't know why no one mentions about it. Especially leather made brake pad material could be asbesto contained material. They should stop selling friction resistance bike for indoor use exercise bicycle. That burnt material will be inhaled during workout and could damage lungs.
