Sunny SF-B1002 vs Sunny SF-B1805 /// Friction vs Magnetic Resistance exercise bike

Today we're going to look at the Sunny SF-B1002 friction resistance bike and compare it to the magnetic resistance Sunny SF-B1805. These two bikes are built very similarly, but there are many subtle differences between the two, with the big one being magnetic resistance vs friction resistance.

I also bring two other examples of friction resistance and magnetic resistance into the picture and show how they two other form factors or exercise bike resistance compares to the sunny bikes in the spotlight. The yosuda bike has friction resistance, but it is a felt pad and the flywheel is much lighter. The joroto x2 bike has magnetic resistance but only one stack of magnets above the flywheel and in my experience this doesn't seem to give as high of a max resistance as the way the Sunny SF-B1805 applies the magnetic resistance from the sides of the flywheel with two magnet stacks.

The Sunny SF-B1002 has a 49lb flywheel and a leather pad which applies friction resistance to the massive flywheel. With the heavy flywheel and the massive radius this works really well and feels very smooth, especially for a physical resistance exercise bike, and overall the Sunny SF-B1002 is a great value and quality exercise bike in my opinion.

The Sunny SF-B1805 uses magnetic resistance that pinches the flywheel from the sides and feels even smoother than the Sunny SF-B1002. The max resistance on the Sunny SF-B1002 is higher than the Sunny SF-B1805, but honestly, a friction resistance bike will always have a higher max resistance than a magnetic resistance exercise bike. The question becomes, how smooth is that max resistance on the friction resistance exercise bike?

Happy New Year everyone. Amazon did this with the pricing not long ago. They jacked it up for several days but then it dropped back down. It also goes the other way which is how I got my 1805. In October, I had been reading reviews and deciding between the Echelon Sport and the Sunny 1805 when I noticed the price had dropped about a $100 on the 1805 on a Monday. It kept dropping until Friday it was down to $465 and I bought it. It went back up to $599 by that Sunday. So watch it closely. I love the 1805. Great job with these videos, I don't get tired of watching them.

Really helpful! I had no idea the felt, leather, and magnet placements would make such a big differences. Just cancelled my existing order and bought the B1002 from your Amazon link. Pairing it with my Garmin Vector 3 power meter, it should make a very nice exercise bike 👍😁

I think I can help a bit with the max weight aspect of the sunny versus the other one-I believe these manufacturer's specify the weight of someone sitting AND standing. So, even if the Sunny is beefier, the pedal cages can actually comes undone over a certain weight if they are in position 2 or 3.

Your videos have been so helpful to me. I think I’m choosing the SB1002 because it’s pretty much what I’m looking for. The only thing you didn’t mention is about short riders. I’m 5, 3” and was worried after watching another review that mentioned the bike may be too tall for short riders. However, I just read an Amazon review from a rider who is 5’2”, and she mentioned she was worried of the height, but she loves it and is able to reach the pedals comfortably so I’m going for it. I Really want to buy either one of these but my main concern are all of the negative reviews on both of the bikes on amazon. Alot of them show terrible welds that have broken or a number of other faulty parts that have completely broken in a matter of months after using them. I completely understand im not buying a 2 thousand dollar stationary bike that would most likely last much longer. But I still dont know if I am willing to gamble 400 to 600 dollars for something that potentially wont even get me through a year.
