Children are fricking resilient. If they want something, they will let you KNOW. They could change the whole world if they all banded together for a cause. I remember when I was in middle school, me and my friends were so fed up with the chaos in the lunch line, that we got a few kids expelled in our grand plan to reform the system.

For a little background, our lunch line was split into 2, 1 for boys and 1 for girls. The lines were on the outside of the building where you got your lunch and paid for it. It was right next to a major hallway (It was kind of an outdoor school, so only the classrooms were inside, the rest like hallways and eating areas were outside, we were in California).

Now, the girls line was on the outside, near the hallway, but the boys line was inward, against the wall, and closed in by the girls on the other side. This meant that once you committed to getting in line, you really couldn't change your mind. This also meant that the teachers (there was usually 1 or 2 teacher monitoring the line every day) couldn't see into the back or middle of the boys line. Now, all the boys knew this, and so they thought "Hey! I can just cut the line, shove, scream, and punch, with no repercussions!". Well, enter me. I was a 7th grader, had just entered junior high about 4 months before this area had finished construction, and had built a solid friend group with nice people. We put up with this for about 2 months, and were not having it.

People cut whenever they felt like it, and it was always the same kids too. There were so many cutters that the period of about 2 minutes after the lunch bell rung to about 6 minutes after the lunch bell rung became known to me and my friends as the "lunch-hour cut-rush". It changed the wait time in line from 5 minutes, TO 15 MINUTES! We got so fed up, that we decided we were going to do something. One day, my friend, we'll call him John, said that he was thinking of tripping these guys who were cutting. I agreed, because I was equally fed up. We spread the word in the friend group, and we would all go together in the lunch line, trip or stop as many cutters as possible. We got a couple of laughs out of it, and some of the cutters stopped doing it. But there were still some. So, we kept at it. Eventually, one kid got shoved to the ground, and knocked into another. This got the other kid mad, so he punched the tripped one. A fight started, and this caused a crowd, mobbing the lunch line trying to see the fight. Me and my friends left, not wanting to get in trouble for being near the fight, and the teachers couldn't get to the center of the fight circle in time to stop it. When they finally got to the 2 kids fighting, there had been one black eye and broken nose gotten. Apparently, those 2 kids were expelled, and I never saw them around that town again. That fixed it, and pretty much no one cut the line anymore, and the teachers were also much more observant, and stopped the shoving and screaming that also happened in the line.

Moral of the story: If kids find something to be unfair, and an adult won't help, they will fix it, finding a way to reform whole systems to get what they want. Please turn this into a video, it's one of my greatest memories.

Having a packed lunch is always better than what they give you at the cafeteria

You know I hear so many stories of schools doing sucky things and then the students are rising up against them only for the school to realize that the students have actual power. And the students themselves realizing they have power. It's the most satisfying thing in the world to me. And something that I always daydreamed about in school. Remind me of that one quote. "People should not fear their governments. Governments should fear their people."

That $3 really is the equilibrium you pay more but not get what you want, you pay enough that you don’t have to pack lunch yourself. Respect to those guys who started it all.

Parents are already paying for thisr kids tomgo to school, therefore school lunches should legally be free. Especially because theres a lot of situations wjere school is the only time some kids actually get to eat anything

My friend used to go to this school where if you brought your own lunch you would need to sit at a different side of the lunch room and people were aware of this rule and was punishable by multiple detentions or even suspension. One day a new kid went to this school and wasn’t aware of the rule because it wasn’t written or anything. The first lunch rolls around and he sits in the school lunch side where a kid saw him and reported him. The next day he was suspended of course no one thought of it until the day he came back from his suspension and the same day the rule was gone. The most commonly heard rumor of this is that his parents sued the school for the rule was not written.
Please make a vid on this🙏

honestly, props to the school for not banning bringing your own lunch. kids were bonding over trading, judging, comparing lunch, so real props to the school for not throwing out a ban.
