This is probably coincidental, but it'd be neat if the people who created this drew inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy 2's figures. I dunno if there is any developer overlap. Any other examples of similar entities come to mind when you think of these ghostly figures?

In case anyone is curious that minigame is a reference to Don Quixote de la Mancha, the most sold novel in the world. The most famous scene of the novel is one in which the protagonist having become delusional after reading too many chivalry tales decides to attack a windmill believing its a giant.

Maybe is just a reference to "Don Quijote", a famous spanish book by Cervantes about a peasant that was crazy and thought windmills where giants

2:13 also good to note that the skybox is not intended to be seen as being as far away as it actually is. It's meant to appear closer to the player, so scales of things on it may not line up with their actual size

This is possibly the biggest anime arc that Nintendo has made. But when will it come to a close

This creature (or one extremely similar to it) actually appeared in the very first WarioWare game. Look up the microgame "Crack Down", in which a silhouetted giant smashes a giant mallet into the ground to create an earthquake that you have to avoid. That microgame also made an appearance in Smash Bros, as well as WarioWare Gold.
So it's probably also a reference to that.

To think a easter egg a dev made in probably minutes could be so memorable

also grats on 500k man!

Wario Ware has many minigames that reference other nintendo games, most notably in the 9-Volt Levels who just so happens to be the playable character in that screen

I'm certain it's completely coincidental. The Wario one made me think of Japanese Yokai, particularly all the giant monks.

This is a stretch. It's not exactly off brand for wario ware to feature such a bizarre figure, and their size isn't really the defining feature of the sky trees. Not to mention you're the only one to really talk about the sky trees much these days.

What I miss about galaxy, was how most worlds feel like places with history that are little notes in the background. Sorta just a little background stuff

Many have pointed it out already, but this microgame is a reference to Don Quixote and the point where he fights a windmill thinking it to be a monster.

I like to think that these aliens are like watching over the Galaxy, being like mythical guardians

This new discovery is actually just foreshadowing for Swanky's future Game Theory about why Warioware: Get It Together is secretly Mario Galaxy 3, despite being a completely different series

I thought it was a reference to Don Quixote giants since there's a windmill

I like how the Sky Tree just appears without context

I love these types of videos, but this is such a huge leap. It's most likely just a coincidence
