The official music for “Brass in Pocket” by The Pretenders was written by Chrissie Hynde and James Honeyman-Scott and produced by Chris Thomas. Released in 1979, the song is featured on the band’s debut album, Pretenders, which came out on January 7, 1980.

As the band’s third single, “Brass in Pocket” became a major hit, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in January 1980. It was the first new number-one single of the 1980s and also climbed to number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

The song’s title was inspired by a conversation Hynde overheard at an after-show dinner, where someone asked, “Picked up dry cleaning? Any brass in pocket?”
