How to Paint Clean Color Notes (like the Impressionists)

Achieving vibrant colors on your paintings is no accident. Painting clean color notes is the key to strong, powerful color. The Impressionist Masters made the distinct color note a thing of beauty. Intentional brushwork that placed a distinct brush mark of clean color is the hallmark of their paintings. Now when you approach your painting try to make each brush mark of color intentional. You will see the colors and overall impact improve as a result.

Hi there, I’m working my way through all your videos, and your free courses too. Learning so much. Thank you hugely. All the techniques are challenging aren’t they when you first start. But after this length of time with you, I’ve come to realise the importance of applying brushstrokes cleanly, variedly (is that even a word 🤭) so finding this video has been a delight. I'm enamoured by your videos and love the look of gouache, but I have never painted before, except in elementary school in the 2000s.
