Catalonia's independence plan explained

Ever since the referendum on October 1, we have been waiting for the Catalan President Carles Puigdemont’s next move. There have been huge demonstrations in favour of independence and against the police brutality that marred that flawed vote. Hundreds of thousands took to the streets, not just in Madrid, but in Barcelona, calling for the region to remain part of Spain. The Catalan president stepped back from the full, immediate declaration of independence voters had wanted when they cast their votes.

The EU have warned Rajoy/Madrid not to use violence. Tusk said, "The argument of force is not as effective as the force of argument", and the whole EU parliament applauded. Rajoy is isolated on the international stage. He is like Mr Punch he thinks the solution to all problems is violence.

History tells us there is only one way to resolve this, let the people decide. If there really is a majority in favor of remaining part of Spain then what is the Spanish government and the pro -EU promoting media, so afraid of. Independence is about people's right to self-determination a civil right and a fundamental element of any democracy. The more any authority suppresses that, the more strength the independence movement will gain.

The introduction to this record correctly states: "For every Catalan fighting for Independence, there is another Catalan opposing it with matching fervour...". That is an exact assessment of the confuse situation. Institutions, corporations, even families, are divided on the issue of Independence. Lady Anna Arqué (International Commission of European Citizens) explains reasons for Independence, but agrees with Catalan President Mister Carles Puigdemont in a temporary suspension of a formal unilateral declaration, with the hope of negotiation with the Government of Spain. Unfortunately, there are few chances of convincing Spaniards to negotiate, except perhaps by mediation of the European Union or other international powers. Both sides are endeavouring to win sympathies, inside Catalonia, inside Spain, in Europe, and in the rest of the World. The situation has become quite serious now.

The city was conquered by the Visigoths in the early 5th century, becoming for a few years the capital of all Hispania. After being conquered by the Arabs in the early 8th century, it was conquered in 801 by Charlemagne's son Louis, who made Barcelona the seat of the Carolingian "Hispanic March" (Marca Hispanica), abuffer zone ruled by the Count of Barcelona.

... Alors chiche ! Kretinos !

Catalan independence would be terrible for Spain, most of the population doesn't want it and Spain will not grant it. Better to give up now, there are much more pressing issues for the world to deal with at the moment.

The move of mr. Puigdemont NOT to declare independence at once is very weak. It will be seen as weakness by Madrid andalso his own supporters. Madrid doesn´t want dialog anyway, so why not battle in a clear cut way, without that foggy language. Possible more radical elements in Catalonia will take over the process and Madrid will enforce direct rule. This struggle for independece can only be won with clear objectives, determination and mass mobilization in a peaceful manner.

It's easy to Declare Independence but it's very difficult to become independent - the issues problems and challenges involved are enormous.

Exit from the EU with no prospect of ever joining again
The need for a border with Spain
Recognition by other sovereign states
The establishment of trading relationships and embassies around the world
The need to establish all manner of agencies
New banking arrangements

It won't be quick or easy...

egocentricism! Go right ahead and divide. Do they want to be part of a united europe? If so, definitely hypocritical at best since europe was created to be united not divided. Split from a state that you were part of shows lack of unity. `no excuse. Illegal vote should go further by allowing people within catalan that want to be part of Spain secede from Catalan.

Let them be independent. To life with people with a totally different perspective, at least 50%, is to divided. So in a short or long term, Catalunia will go by itself. In this world a country doesn't need oil per definition anymore and could choose for sustainable energy, wind, water, sun, etc. If it's possible to be there own state with there own economy, I don't know, but it will not be easy. I hope a good solution will take place in longer term and no weapons will taken up by both sides. The world is changing and we must evolve in it.

As many British people saying bad things about Spain in America because they wanted to take over The rest of America, so you don't have to say anything, enough we are not the Same, we are Spanish very proud of that. You buy people with money with many privileges in Gibraltar.that is because they want to stay with you.
