Between LG, Sony and Samung, who has the best 4K TV of 2017???
LG OLED vs Samsung Quantum Dot QLED vs Sony Bravia OLED

We traveled to CES 2017 to see the entire line-up of Top of the line 4K televisions.

-Samsung-
Samsung debuted their new QLED TV's with striking lifelike picture quality, and ultra-thin seamless design. The models they showed were the 88" Q9F TV and 65" Q8C, they both had stunning image quality with deep blacks, ridiculous color detail and blistering brightness. They also demonstrated their innovative Optical Cable feature, the striking Easel and Gravity TV stands to match any rooms decor with a variety mounting options.

-LG-
LG stole the show with the debut of the new OLED W, this ultra thin TV looks like a large smartphone hung on your wall. The TV measures just 8.5 mm in thickness and attaches to your wall with magnets, what is this, the future! It will be available in 65-inch and 77-inch screen sizes with a separate Dolby Atmos sound bar. For 2017, LG has improved the brightness and they are now HDR compatible with HDR10 and Dolby Vision compliance. LG also demonstrated their LG OLED E7 and LG Signature OLED G7 and are huge improvements over the E6 and G6 model.

-Sony-
Sony entered the market and wowed the crowd with the all new Bravia A1 Series OLED, these TV's are available in 65-inch and 77-inch screen sizes. They support HDR with Dolby Vision HDR and their all new Sony X1 Extreme picture processor, for dare I say it, leading picture quality. If that weren't enough, the most unique feature of this set comes with its sound; there are no speakers attached to the panel. The TV uses a transducer to use the screen surface as the speaker! To say we were impressed is an under statement.

LG OLED W 65" and 77"
Samsung Quantom Dot QLED 88" Q9F TV and 65" Q8C
Sony Bravia A1E OLED 4K 65" and 77"

Sony was the first manufacture to use the Quantum Dot technology in it's 2013 TRILUMINOS W900A and W900X 4K set's. As an owner of the Sony 55" W900A I can tell you that it's only now in 2017 that manufactures are actually putting out TV's that can now match the picture quality of the 2013 Sony's, and IMO only the Sony Z9D (which actually has a better picture than LG's OLED sets) is even in the running as a replacement for my W900A.

On picture quality alone, would you pick the Sony?

And I've been hearing that Samsung's TV isn't "true" QLED because they still use backlighting. So it's possible a future TV from them could get the deep blacks of an OLED and still maintain the bright whites.

Man, competition is getting intense. I was blown away by QLED! Wow! There is promise in that technology, and I say this as a Plasma guy, maybe max brightness and pure whites outweigh the whole perfect blacks thing. Both have their merits, but in reality perfect blacks are something we already have in the Samsung f8500 and the Panasonic zt60. If black levels, fluid motion and beautiful image processing were all that mattered we wouldn't be having this conversation. But clearly it isn't!

What do new displays have that these plasma titans didn't? COLOR! Yes colors are the driving force behind rec 2020 and the entire reason UHD standards were invented. And Samsung's QLED just hits this out of the park. I mean, just wow.

Okay, but there's something to be said for impeccable image processing as well. This is *so important*, and right now no one does it better than Sony with their amazing x1 chip. This matters because oled and led LCD displays struggle with motion in ways plasma's didn't, and so without good processing these displays can look pretty bad, even if they have all the benefits of light emitting diodes (cough, LG has horrible processing). This causes things like jerky motion on screen, blown out whites and crushed blacks and other things of this nature. LG really shot themselves in the feet by not getting processing down solid. On the other hand, if it weren't for LG to personally research and develop a light emitting diode alternative to plasmas it probably wouldn't exist today in the consumer market (and indeed both Sony and Panasonic are using LG display panels, but with improved processing and alternative sound engineering. in their new OLED's).

Wow. All these companies are really pumping out world class products that really trade punches in every category, and yet they're all so original and true to their companies' values in their product lineups. And remarkably they've all built similar offerings without even realizing it. Video lovers are in for one hell of a year this year. The time of mourning the loss of Plasma is over. It's time to embrace rec 2020 and get with the COLOR baby!

LG is the best, implementing of Technicolor technology (HDR Dolby vision) and having the best contrast and viewing angle.

The Qled is a good alternative for those who don't wants to spend the steep price for the lg or Bravia oled. It will give the best black levels possible on any led tv due to its new alloy quantum dot tech improved from last year. That would make the qled the next best thing to oled without burning a hole in your pocket. But if you have the money go for an actual oled. Whether Sony is better than lg or not, time can only tell. Lg provides the panels for the Sony oled but Sony adds their image processing and color rendering to the mix.

It's a bit of a strange video, as the Sony OLED panels are made by LG so essentially they're the same tv, the main difference is the processing, which Sony has vastly more experience with from being a former TV champion.
I expect the processing to be better on the Sony, as it apparently has two CPUs. one for video processing, the other for running the TV management and Android TV.

I'm also trying to decide between Samsung 55 QLED or LG OLED. LG reviewers comment on response time for gaming is not good. And Samsung no-gap wall mount and optical cable look interesting (although the wall mount isn't for sale yet!). Thoughts?

The QLED will last longer than the current OLED tech

qled will come out on top in the end it combines elements of oled and the quatum dot technology. this has left samsug with a lot of room to play around eventually surpassing the oled trust me on that.
