I was at this game. I'll never forget that moment between when Tabata leaned into the pitch and the ump made the motion to take first base. It felt like an eternity. I'm glad Max got the no-hitter, but that was such a classless move by Tabata.

If only Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire, was here, this would never have happened.

People still upset about this but at the end of the day, Scherzer has a ring, and I had to look up who Tabata was

This Literally got recommended to me right after Carlos Rodon lost his perfect game to a hbp

He would only have 6 more ABs in major league baseball.

Still grinds my gears 5 years later. At least Scherzer got a ring, I guess.

I’d like to see Tabata taking that hbp with a 105mph from Chapman

Who’s here after the Mets walked off on a HBP in the strike zone. Looking like Kulpa behind the plate

It's on the ump. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.

The funny thing is you could not be paying attention and still know he leaned into the pitch

Scherzer, for his part, wasn't mad at Tabata. He even said that if he were batting in this situation, he'd probably do the same thing.

5 years later I am still pissed about this game. I went to a Nats game 2 days later and EVERYONE booed at the guy.

It's funny how people are defending Tabata.

As a Pittsburgher, i still recall when Tabata hit an infield groundball & just stood there watching; forgetting to run to 1st base. Clint Hurdle benched him immediately. This is the same guy who requested #21 on his uniform! (Roberto Clemente's #)

Hi Mets fan here. I HATE the Nats and I don't particularly like Scherzer but even I have to say that was a lousy classless thing to do. Ruined history and for what, increase your OBP?

It’s been 5 years. Why am I still angry at this guy?
