Can't believe you didn't mention that Don Adams was a marine who served in the pacific theatre in World War Two, contracted blackwater fever as a result of being shot by a Japanese sniper and was also an expert marksman.

This show is absolutely genious. We already know all the scenes, we can say the quotes before the actors and even so, we never get tired to watch it time after time.

It's amazing that the cartoon Inspector Gadget wasn't mentioned. Don Adams was the voice of Inspector Gadget and the character was very similar to Maxwell Smart.

Funniest scene, Max is in his undercover role at the shoe store and 99 brings her mom to the shop to meet him. Of course Max is as bumbling selling shoes as he is as a spy. 99's mom takes her aside and asks, "are you sure he's really a shoe salesman?" 99 defensively replies, "yes, why?". Her mom tells her "well you know your dad pretended be be a shoe salesman". 99 looks a little shocked and says "he wasn't???". "Didn't you know, your dad was a secret agent".

Barbara Feldon was just excellent in this. Could not have been bettered.

Nobody had done a show about an idiot before. Most '60s sitcoms were about Rhodes Scholars like Gilligan, Herman Munster and Gomer Pyle, or featured Nobel Laureates like Barney Fife and Goober Pyle.

I'm 42. I watched this show in the 80s on reruns. Always thought it was hilarious 😂

I live in Alameda county, California and sometimes I get jury duty at the courthouse near lake Merritt. The parking structure one uses is connected to the courthouse underground by a long tunnel with many doors. I can't help it that every time I walk that tunnel I find myself humming the Get Smart theme and giggling it really feels like I'm acting out the intro to Get Smart😂😂😂😂❗

About 99's unknown name, I remember an episode where, in a tender moment, Max calls her 'Ernestine.' She replied, 'Max, that's the first time you ever called me Ernestine! Too bad it's not my real name!'

I had a high school friend in the early to mid 80's that did the GS shtick in school. Anytime you get a "new kid, or sexually tensioned characters get married (Like the Nanny) the show is doomed! Also Don Adams directed episodes in the final seasons, so the dynamic changed. He DID get a "check" rather than a big salary. Later doing voicing Inspector Gadget. So many funny episodes. Anything w/ cone of silence broke me UP!

I recently saw the 1984 movie Get Smart Again. It still makes me laugh. I did enjoy Steve Carell & Anne Hathaway's version too!
"I missed it by this much!"
Good times! Good times!

99 and 86 got married, that's what destroyed the ratings.
