I don't buy the insurance in case I scratch a wheel. I buy it in case I total it.

"If you added up all the insurance you didn't use you'd find out you overpaid" … The insurance industry business model.

Rob is truly the biggest genius ever. He damages a car and makes a video about it which 100% pays for any possible damages sheesh lol

I just rented a car overseas a couple weeks ago, do it several times a year from the same company in that country and this time I ended up making a turn and driving over some mud on the side of the road that ended up being a big drop, the car literally bottomed out and the bottom slammed onto the road on one side and I had to drag it forward to get it out making the most horrible noise, whole side covered in mud and looked terrible, hubcap was kind of fucked up; took it back when I was flying out expecting to be charged for some sort of damage and the girl was like, looks fine, wrote it up and took the keys and that was it. Still can't believe I got away with that.

I've curbed wheels in a rental. Ive also bottomed out, dropped a lit joint on the seat, spilled beer in the cupholder and puked on the dashboard. Never had rental insurance. Enterprise expects that sort of behavior.

It will be interesting to hear how this plays out - please make another video once everything has been paid. A lot of the credit card insurance won't cover under certain circumstances (being in Europe or a high performance / luxury car).

Sixt is usually very lenient when it comes to minor nicks and scratches. At least on their lower end cars they consider minor curb damage as normal wear and tear. Im curious to hear how much they want for the damage on that M4 wheel.

Great advice, I rent all the time - The photo in and photo out is such good advice. It has saved me a number of times.

"How do you not know you curbed a wheel?" ...maybe it's just a special power only women have?

You personally never needing insurance and as a result not getting your "money's worth" is not a good reason to not get insurance. It's not a bank account, it's not an investment, you buy it hoping you never have to use it in order to protect yourself from being among the small number of people who get financially ruined because they also didn't think it was worth it to have insurance and cause a multi car pileup.

I don't think changing the tire would've worked. The tire pressure sensors wouldn't get the readings in both cars and you would have to pay to reprogram the computers.
