The fact the VA is deviating from established medical doctrine on what hypertension is should be a cause for legal challenges in the courts.

So if you are on medicine to control your hypertension numbers would that allow a rating of 10% since if you weren't on the medicine you would be rated due to the uncontrolled blood pressure numbers?

... before my desert vacation in 1991 I was always low BP , after returning I was diagnosed high BP in 1994 and have been mostly unsuccessfully treated for the last 30 years and this is the first time I've heard that it could be service related .... imagine that ...

I have just been approved for cognitive impairment secondary to service connected hypertension. I not only had medical research but MRI's of my brain showing stroke, white matter damage and brain shrinkage. All associated with long term hypertension and cognitive impairment. Hypertension can cause severe damage to your blood vessels in your heart and in your brain. My VA doctor wrote me a nexus statement and the C&P doctor agreed.

I filed a claim for service related hypertension in April of 2022 (30 months ago). There was clear evidence of HBP on my discharge physical. The claim was denied for lack of service related connection. I appealed and the judge ruled in my favor last month. I just went through my C&P exam. Since I'm on meds, they only needed three readings on one day. Two from the left arm, and on from the right. If you're not on meds, they require three readings over three days.

My readings were: Left#1 164/87, Left #2 160/93, and Right 178/121. I know those are way too high, and I immediately called my private doctor to get my meds adjusted.

Now I'm just waiting to see how the VA will rate my claim. In addition, I also claimed coronary artery disease secondary to the hypertension. The judge ruled in my favor on that one too. I'm just waiting for my C&P exam next week.

I didn’t know about submitting my va claims till after my BP fell below the thresholds. But when I went into the ER in 2022 my BP was 257/148 I have plenty of evidence, , , it’s been almost 2 yrs now. My BP is 170’s /80’s, my 8 medications are helping keep my BP down and I’m taking jardiance a diabetes pill. But now I’m having frequent urination during the day and night upwards of 6 times a night, and leakage, , , , going in at end of Oct to see a VSO. Don’t know how much he will help. I’m rated 0 % hypertension when I went in March my BP was consistent at over 180/85’s. But that lower number wasn’t over 100 any longer.

I was told at my C&P Exam, that my hypertension was part of my PTSD. So can I go and file hypertension as a secondary claim?

I have hypertension, VA sends me a care package of pills every 90 days. I was diagnosed while on Active Duty, was given service connection for it and oh yeah 0% rating. This video is good but how is VA getting away with calling hypertension an almost heart attack blood pressure readings?

VA contacted me to apply for hypertension and also because of ED. They contacted me! They quickly had me seen by a doctor (foreign female), and my BP was checked a couple hours after I had taken my BP meds, which I had taken for over 30 plus years. The BP check was still a bit high but acceptable. I have been diagnosed with ED since 2002. I was okay for Hypertension but zero compensation. I was denied for ED. I am already 100%. 90% plus 10% TDIU. I filed TDIU in 2007, and when I was approved 11 years later, they only went back one year on TDIU. It's not unusual to be screwed by the VA, but what irritates me is...they contacted me knowing the problems have existed.

Im on a few different BP meds. So when you go in for your C&P exam and your BP is at good number. Does the VA take in account that is because of the meds?

Many of us have knee problems from falling to our knees during boot camp and my question is how do we file for our knees when we never complained about them but now torn meniscus’s are very evident.

Can side effects of medications be considered secondary to hypertension? Such as leg swelling or frequent urination?

I wonder why memory issues was not mentioned. My doctor said that my hypertension most likely is a factor in my Mild Cognitive Impairment. Have you ever been successful in getting memory issues approved secondary to hypertension?

These numbers your referring to, are they prior to taking medication or after medication. I currently have hypertension but while serving I had been diagnosed with heart palpitations I don’t know if these are related conditions to file a claim. Thank you
