I don't know how my Father knew, but when I was 10 years old he told me that if I ever come across silver coins from 1964 or earlier that I come across he would buy from me. I was born in 1954 and didn't care why he wanted them but gave them to all the time I was growing up. When he passed away I was 55 and going through his possessions found several metal cabinets and a military footlocker full of silver coins and wheat pennies along with silver certificate paper money. That was 13 years ago and I haven't gotten rid of any of them. Gonna leave them to my son.

What a great true story that shows the value of the legacy left by Steve's grandparents. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe your grandparents had the intentions of leaving you the money so that you can restore the old farmhouse and the whole family could use it again for summer vacations and things of that nature either way grandparents are the most wonderful people in the whole world they make a child's life so much more entertaining I don't think enough parents know exactly how important grandparents are in a child's world

I wish I could go thru my grandparents house, we grew up in it, but when they passed away my Uncle sold it out from under us. We happened to be at the beach at the time, and couldn't go back because it was sold and he sold all our stuff including our clothes, before we could bat an eye. I'm 67 now and still wish I could, just for a minute.

I was disinherited because I joined the Navy during Vietnam so I would not be drafted into the Army or Marines. Dying for another country is not smart. My grandfather left me his father's violin. That violin is worth more tome than anything material.

* sigh * with so many people out of work right now, why can’t content creators hire a real person? I hate bot voices!

I sold a business a few years back and since have became a serious treasure cache and relic hunter. What I’ve learned after intense research and hunts is if people knew how much wealth was still waiting out there to be found they would be losing a lot of sleep lol. I think it’s a perfect storm of technology helping research, technology helping recovery, and the price of gold and other relics that makes the decision to put real time and money into the space a smart one.

I would of sold all the money found and restored the old farmhouse. So the memories could continue. Take pictures of all the findings and hang them in the new remodel of the farmhouse. That is what I would do.

I think these treasures meant a lot to the grandparents in their lives. I think they also would realize these items might not mean the same to their grandchildren. I think they derived pleasure and enjoyment from them in life and, in death, would be pleased to know they also provided some financial security to their loved ones after their passing. And to know they left some wonderful memories of loving relationships.

My Dad sold his coin collection for a beautiful Tudor style home. I can’t imagine what they would go for today. What a find.

I enjoy this story immensely I remember my grandma taking me into her bedroom and showing me all of her Little Treasures although we had to move from California to Idaho we never did get a chance to see her again, I was a big topic in the family cuz you see my grandma didn't like any of her children or grandchildren but for some reason I was her pride and joy she showed me all the different things she had gold and silver silver coins dollars dimes nickels metal pennies is she owned a huge plot of land that was later sold to make a major highway use later I'd remember to taking me into the backyard and showing me all these little holes she says this is where the treasures at in the land and under the land apparently she had also very stuff on that property that was sold off to the state and sadly we never saw any of that thanks to Crooked relatives, after I grew up I found out that the Scroggins name originated from the UK and would Dukes & Lords ofttimes I wonder what might have happened had I stayed in California, I don't know if anybody will remember the name but mine great-great-aunt was Mae West she was an actress in Hollywood in fact at one point she owned the majority of the land which now is referred to as Silicon Valley how I would love to talk to someone who knew her, my grandma told me about her and was going to introduce us but before that happened my mom and Grandma had a falling out so I never got to meet Auntie Mae or even see my grandma again, this story all those short has brought back a lot of memories for me this is William thanks for sharing later
