CarGurus (pronounced as a single word, rhyming with 'kangaroos') is a Massachusetts-based website that assists users in comparing local listings for used and new cars. They have a large subscriber base, with 139K on YouTube alone. They have some 46 mln visitors per month on their website, ranking them a top 200 website in the US.
They launched this remarkable clip in Oct '21. Working with agency VIA, CarGurus developed the campaign, “Do More From Home,” with a series of humorous spots. This is "We need space".
Overwhelmed by the pile of luggage cluttering the entry hall, the man in red remarks that "this is never going to work," no doubt referring to squeezing all those bags into the trunk of their car -- but his partner immediately frets that he wants to end their relationship. When a CarGurus representative comes to the rescue and tries to explain that he's just shopping for bigger SUVs using CarGurus' helpful analytics, the fretful man is still suspicious until he's assured that his partner doesn't need space after all... unless it's trunk space, that is.
Chris Avantaggio, art director at VIA, added: “We aimed to create work that would not only breakthrough the category but educate consumers on CarGurus smarts, science and scale. By casting our duo of Gurus, we were able to bring the brand to life in playful and unexpected ways, while also creating a campaign that’s unmistakably CarGurus.”
