"Where did you get that great lasso?"
"Amazon!"

"The war to end all wars."

Every time I hear that phrase, I feel so sorry for everyone who perished in the First World War. They thought they were giving their lives for a peace that would last generations, only to end about 20 years later.

The look on the Diana and the young Amazons as they were unable to grasp the sheer magnitude of the war being described to them. And the sorrow in Queen Hippolyta's face who probably is the only one among them who has seen such a scale of death in her lifetime.

Thats some pretty good acting there.

Makes sense that Diana falls for him so quickly...the lasso 100% confirms that he is a great, honest person with pure motives.

At the end he fights against the lasso to try not saying how concerned and terrified he is about the state of the war. That little thing by itself shows he’s trying to be optimistic, showing both how good of a person he is and confirming just how terrible this war is.

The way Steve spoke in pain about the war was amazing, but what really sold this moment was the Lasso of Truth. Everyone of them had to realize he was speaking the truth, despite how horrid it was to know that there is a war that massive and deadly.

It’s pretty impressive how long he manages to hold off the Lasso’s power
Edit: obviously i know this is a fictional show of fictional strength in a fictional story, you guys don’t have to keep telling me its fictional

Let this not distract you from the fact that Batman, super man and wonder woman held the lace of truth to mention their real names. And Batman said his real name is Batman.

Why couldn’t he just say I can’t disclose my mission to you, he’d be telling the truth.

I love this scene. It not only has great acting by Pine, it introduces the Lasso of Truth and its powers, as well as leading naturally into a big exposition dump that informs the entire rest of the story. It also grounds the superhero in the human world by introducing real war horrors. Real stakes. Real heroism. Real drama. Such a good scene.

4:24 What gets me about this scene is the look on Diana’s face when Steve says “Women and children slaughtered!” and he says it’s like the world is going to end. The look in her eyes is shocked, horrified, heartbroken…like her innocence is shattered by hearing about such suffering existing in the world while she’s safe in Themiscyera.
That’s when she knows what she has to do.

Steve: The war
Wonder women: What war?

Literally that was their purpose in life, to watch over humanity and protect them... Good job

Steve is an impressive man for resisting the Lasso of Truth. He's definitely gonna lift Mjolnir in Justice League: Endgame.

Is no one gonna talk about Chris Pine's amazing, amazing acting here?

I just noticed something interesting in this scene. The lasso compels Steve to tell the truth, anytime he resist he feels pain. When he starts talking about war, especially when he says the line “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen” you can tell his in pain, and I suspect it’s because he is unwilling to admit the truth of how afraid he is and how much pain and suffering he has witnessed as a result of the war. It’s a subtle but interesting expression during a critical moment of the film. Chris Pine did an excellent job in this scene.
