There's an episode in Batman Beyond when the supervillain Shriek tries to make elderly Bruce Wayne seem insane by secretly hiding small speakers so Bruce thinks he's hearing voices in his head. The voice coming from the speakers keeps calling him "Bruce." When he's asked how he knew the voice wasn't coming from inside his head, he answers that he doesn't call himself "Bruce" in his thoughts. In his mind, he always subconsciously calls himself "Batman."

They showed the Superman thing perfectly in the TV show Lois & Clark, when he told Lois, "Superman is what I can do, but Clark is who I am."
They showed part of the reason why Batman doesn't think of himself as Bruce Wayne in the Smallville comic book when he and Superman teamed up. At the end of that storyline, Superman finds Bruce laying a bouquet of flowers in Crime Alley at the place where his parents were murdered. Clark said that the flowers were as much for the boy Bruce used to be as they were for his parents. In other words, Bruce died that night, too, giving birth to Batman. So in his mind, Bruce is dead, and only Batman is alive (to carry out his mission).
