Clearly the pay rates are based on merit. Ellie gets paid more because of her skill in manipulating Rowan and hiding. Sounds fair.

For reference, assuming ~40 hour work weeks, Ellie is currently making around $394, 160 annually. Converting from New Zealand money to USD, that comes out to around $248, 000 annually.
