@7:18 I could not figure out why I couldn't select the welcome text. I thought I would mention that when you are selecting vectors with this method, you must wrap the rectangle around the entire vector that you wish to grab in order to select it, it's not like other programs where you could partially select the objects. There is another method of selecting from the right hand side and that anything the rectangle touches will be selected using this method.

I just got a CNC machine and started playing with the software a bit and feel like what I m wanting to do is one or the more basic things but I'm having issue finding instructions on how to do it.
I just need to cut some 2D letters and logos out of aluminum composite, plexiglass or wood. Everything I'm finding goes into the 3D carving and design things that I'm really not interested at the moment.
Any idea where I can get instruction on basic import and cut of simple things?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is a simple video to follow, but I noticed you didn't mention the depth of cut for the pocket. I can see in the UI that it's 0.325" (at 12:26). Did I miss something where you stated that was the depth you are going to use? Does the software use a default? Just curious.

I am on version 12.013 on VCarve Desktop. It seems that the "live" edits in the Design View are not available in that version. That is, I cannot edit X, Y, or the radius in the Design View, only "Draw Rectangle" configuration box to the left of the screen. Are you using Aspire or a different version of Desktop?

EDIT: this workflow does not work for me. I have copied your design (minus the 4 corner holes) and when I calculate the toolpath, the preview shows the letters being carved into the stock versus the material around the letters being carved. I keep getting a popup suggesting I go to the Vector Validator which tells me I have 12 Overlaps and 14 Intersections, but I don't know what to do with that information. I am copying your process of object selection, etc. exactly.
EDIT to EDIT: When I SHIFT-selected the text and border, then it worked. The marquee select did not work for me.

thanks for the video.. very useful info!
Side question: I like your Job Setup layout on the left. How do I make my modeling resolution section hidden like yours? I never ever ever ever use that and IMO this is something Vectric should have hidden by default instead of hiding the very much used additional file operations.

at what point did you make it cut out around the letter rather then the letters?

I'm curious why you set up the nail holes as part of the pocket cut instead of setting them up to cut all the way through.

When you put the Z in for the profile cut and said something about putting zed into the box and press something on your keyboard I could not understand what you said there. If i put Z in the box it seems to show 8 passes instead of 1 but it doesn't show me the number like yours did.

If I download the trial version of VCarve Pro and then buy the retail version do I have to uninstall the trail version, and install the retail version or do I just put in a registration code?

@15:20 what was the keyboard command you pressed to set you depth of cut for the profile toolpath?

I wanted to see the "how to use the interface" but so far I cannot find it. Why not include the URL in the YouTube description area?

On my PC when I first clicked on the rectangle tool, I drew the rectangle I could see the box on the right side of the rectangle and the size but some text in a pop-out from the question mark covered the box on the bottom of my screen. I clicked on something in an attempt to remove the text pop-out, the view changed, I no longer see the boxes with the lengths and cannot determine how to get back to show the side lengths. Now I'm really confused and upset!!!! So far as a VERY new user I'm not impressed with VCarve.

Hello, when I view the 3D Model it shows a transparent view, not a wood solid view. Just wondering if there is something I can do? Thanks

I'm attempting to follow along and have V12 Pro (full version). I clicked on the 3D view, in the upper right corner of the Vcarve window there is an icon that allows me to see different views. When I click on some of the options (Back, Left, Back, Right, possibly more) I don't see the project. IMHO I should be able to see something in all of the views.
